HOMEGROWN AND ECOFRIENDLY:
This Dundas, Ontario family owned farm started in dairy but switched to flowers and poultry a number of years ago.
This is place where nothing goes to waste and every decision is made with the environment and people in mind.
The chicken p**p is composted for six months and is then used to fertilize the fields. Hydrogen peroxide is used to prevent fungus. It's safer for the employees and better for the environment.
The plastic film on the fields (seen in the pictures) is used to give the plants a head start in the unpredictable spring and early summer weather. It also keep weeds down and reduces the need for harmful pesticides and chemicals. Joanne and her team use Biofilm which is made of corn and is 100% biodegradable. It costs about 10% more than the plastic product but is better for the environment and doesn't have to be removed. It composts into the soil.
