And just like that, the season comes to an end… This morning I got up at 7:00 and went downtown to dismantle this behemoth of a chuppah. Now that it’s safely tucked into a corner of the shop, I can focus on my full time task for the next few weeks: taking care of my adrenal system. Cortisol depletion anyone???

Well, what a year... Many, many times since last spring I’ve felt incredibly lucky for my natural tendency to see the silver lining in everything. I’m just wired that way, I’ve always been... And never has it been such a big part of keeping going. It’s always nice to see the world that way, but this year it became essential to my sanity. Is it always realistic? Probably not? Was I able to see the glass half full when it was in actuality pretty much empty? Probably. But I don’t care. We made it through 💚 So to finish this awfully difficult year on a high note, lets all find our own silver linings and dwell on them a little bit. I was able to spend some time off in the summer with Finnegan for the first time, and boy did we take advantage of that. We caught frogs, climbed trees, slept in the car, saw lots of lichen, ate at a lot of roadside cantines. The first confinement emptied the streets so much that I was able to practice driving on the highway, something I never, ever thought would be possible for me. Now when I can’t sleep instead of fake shopping for plane tickets I fake directions on Google maps and imagine all the road trips I can take once all this s**t is over. The complete lack of work gave me time to reconnect with my creative side and I did more photo shoots in one summer than in the past 5 years. It was nice to create for myself and to reconsider what this business is trying to put out into the world... So tell me, what about you? What was your silver lining this year??

Fall and spring colliding... I can’t help seeing the positive side of things, my brain is wired that way and I just can’t view things differently. It’s an especially useful skill this year when at times (like those weeks when 20 clients call to cancel their weddings at once) everything seemed pretty bleak... So, one of the things I’m most grateful for is having the time to explore and create florals just for myself, and the immense luck to have talented photographer friends like who are always (almost) game to join in the fun. I hadn’t had the chance to indulge in this since we shot the book a few years ago...

Modern day alchemy... Parking lot “weeds” transmutated into a luxurious wedding ceremony backdrop. Ok, there’s also a few “proper flowers” in the mix, some from our friends and some leftover from last week’s wedding. I can’t wait to see the pictures took of this... If you’re curious about my thoughts on this installation, check out my stories...

Wild asters.
This morning the news came that our last wedding of the season (in four days) would be scaled down from a small family affair to a simple ceremony in the parc. I felt for this bride who had to change and re-organize about half a dozen times since the spring... I remind myself about that when I find myself feeling sad that I won’t be able to use any wild asters this season. What a strange and stressful year it’s been. I’m counting on catching up next summer and using truckloads of these babies!

This is my child.
My beautiful, innocent, privileged white child. He’s nine years old. For the past few days (since he was born really, but sometimes the intensity swells) I’ve been wondering what I can do to make sure he’s part of the solution, not the problem.
As someone who grew up in one of the most culturally diverse neighborhoods in Canada, who grew up taking for granted that humans come in many shapes, colors, sizes, whatever...
I always thought that passing those values down to my child was my way of making sure things would get better in the long run. Now I’m realizing maybe that’s not enough. Maybe, hopefully, there’s more we can do. There has to be. It can’t take another few generations before s**t changes. Maybe it’s too easy to say that they’re the future; we have to be the future. NOW.

SIMPLICITY. This is where I’m at guys. Making arrangements from rehydrated seaweed salad. Not like “Oh this would be a fun thing to try!”... No I made it to EAT it and then then found myself unable to consume the prettiest pieces.
This month has been swell . Can you keep doing it? Please?

Trout. Lilies. Some of the very first flowers to bloom here in Quebec after 5 to 6 months of snow... I have the fondest memories of these as a kid, walking through the woods and spotting their polka-dot leaves.

Simple. Super simple. Find myself going back to basics, editing, trimming the fat... This guy I made for the weekly challenge inspired by their upcoming book with . The theme this week was “naturalness” and anyone who’s worked with me knows that that concept is very close to my heart and informs all of my design endeavours. I wanted this arrangement to look like I just scooped up a piece of forest floor, the trout lilies poking through last season’s dried leaves.
