ery excited to announce that the theme for our next event is Daring Greatly, named after Brené Brown's latest book. She was inspired by Theodore Roosevelt’s quote:

“It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles, or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who errs, who comes short again and again, because there is no effort without error and shortcoming; but who does actually strive to do the deeds; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat”.

What is missing when we look at mental health?

This talk was recorded in 2014, pre-pandemic. With the rise in mental health issues, we need to look beyond traditional techniques, methodologies and medications if we are truly interested in finding real solutions.

A couple of days ago in Edinburgh, TED Climate Countdown Summit hosted a conversation which was moderated by Christiana Figueres included the head of Shell, an impact investor, and a young activist. The unedited video of the discussion is worth watching.

The Countdown Summit in Edinburgh featured this morning a difficult and at moments emotional on-stage discussion on fossil fuels and accelerating the trajectory of decarbonization.

On National Indigenous Peoples Day we would like to share past TEDxMontrealWomen talks from several of the extraordinary Indigenous women leaders with whom we have had the privilege of working: Nakuset Cree Nation, Skawennati, and AFN Yukon Regional Chief Kluane Adamek.

Today is a day to celebrate the rich diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis cultures, a day to learn from Indigenous leaders, a day to reflect on the devastating impacts of colonialism-- both historical and present-- and a day to consider how each of us can take actions towards meaningful reconciliation.

Rose Mutiso: Prioritizing Africa

TEDxMontrealWomen's Climate COUNTDOWN

As this year draws to a close, we’re reflecting how far we’ve all come in our own green habits and all the incredible things Montreal women are doing across the city and abroad. We believe we can be the change we wish to see and would love for you to share your climate actions and ideas, however big or small, in a 1min video. It can be a project you’ve been working on for many months, or something you’ll be kicking off in the new year - essentially your own « Ideas Worth Spreading » ! We will be featuring some of these video clips with everyone on February 8 2020 at the climate event. Please send your clips to [email protected] with the subject « My Climate Action is... » and let us know your name and neighbourhood!

As environmental activist Greta Thunberg said: “I want you to act like you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if our house is on fire. Because it is.” We at TEDxMontrealWomen have recognized that there is a need to change the dialogue around climate change. But why is this significant? The changes taking place on our Earth are more rapid and more alarming than we have been led to believe, and many are beginning to realize that the words “climate change” no longer accurately reflect the seriousness of the situation at hand. To hear about the “climate crisis” better conveys the devastating effects of global heating on our home, a message we feel is vital that we spread. In calling to mind a greater sense of emergency, the climate crisis reminds us all that we must deliberately take action, instead of simply watching as irreversible changes in our atmosphere and wildlife occur.
