North Cowichan recognized as official address
(North Cowichan, BC) – North Cowichan, in collaboration with Canada Post, is pleased to announce that mailing addresses previously within the municipality and listed as Duncan will now be recognized as North Cowichan. This change reflects our community identity and aligns with long-standing efforts to distinguish North Cowichan in postal records. The change is effective March 17.

“This change is an important step in strengthening North Cowichan’s identity and ensuring our community is recognized appropriately. For many years, residents and businesses – as well as many past Councils -- have expressed a desire to have their mailing address reflect where they truly live, and we’re pleased that Canada Post has now made this possible,” said Mayor Rob Douglas. “I want to recognize everyone’s patience as we move forward together.”

Key facts:

Residents and businesses who are in North Cowichan but currently use Duncan as their mailing address will receive letters from Canada Post outlining the change.
As Canada Post will recognize both names, Duncan can continue to be used as the mailing address.
Some third-party organizations, such as Amazon and Google, may take time to update their systems.
There is nothing residents and businesses need to do other than update their mailing address as needed and if desired.
Chemainus and Crofton addresses will not be affected. These town names will continue to be recognized by Canada Post.
Properties in the Mt Sicker Road area that were previously identified as Chemainus will change to North Cowichan.

Some other addresses may see housekeeping changes as North Cowichan took this opportunity to update land database. As well some addresses have been identified as not valid, such as unauthorized secondary suites. Those properties will receive a letter from Canada Post with further details and information to contact North Cowichan staff to discuss options to rectify their addressing.

✅ If you can, park off the road to allow plows space to complete their work.

Had the interview today so I didn't get much done in the studio today. I got my gear unloaded from the cargo trailer and I will be gearing up for tomorrow morning's commercial. Monday it's on to adding shelves and putting things in their homes.

Made some more progress today. Painting is done floors mopped and got the shelving in from the rain to dry out. Forecast was for snow this weekend so poured on the energy and got it all in this evening.

Studio first coat of paint done, todays time for the second coat. Almost done. Then I can do the clean up and hopefully move in the shelving Monday and start organizing.

Got a new camera today. I am looking forward to all its new features and abilities. I will be selling off two of my older cameras and ordering a second one so I can match them up better in post. Once I sell my z -190 then I will grab a third for a better complete set. The only thing that can mess this plan up is a 25% tarrif.

Studio has its first two coats of primer. Still some trim to do yet but things are looking awesome. Can't wait till next week when it gets the final coats of paint. Then it's on to shelving and get organized to start the first filming job.

Did some filming and editing for this project. The Doobie Brothers Experience. Enjoy filmed at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo.

A Nanaimo based tribute act the Doobie Brothers Experience has started the rounds to bring back memories of The Doobie Brothers.

Studio update.

They spray foamed the outside of the ceiling of each area and started insulating with Rockwool sound insulation. One more day and they should be done insulating. Then we are on to drywall.

Yesterday marks a milestone in our 2+ year struggle to set up our studio. We got our framing inspection done. Now it's on to insulation then drywall mud and primer.

Renovating our studio! New stairs in. Next the landing at the top. Move one wall 6 inches and then We can put in the support to the footing. Then redo the bathroom. Cross bracing / blocking for the floor joists.
Then insulation of the ceiling, and drywall.

UPDATE October 7: Island Health has advised that the most recent water tests from Fuller Lake beach indicate contaminants are below the acceptable limits. Signs posted indicating swimming is not recommended are now removed.

⚠️ Due to poor water quality, swimming at Fuller Lake beach is not recommended. Island Health conducts water sample testing at public beaches and pools, and once tests indicate water quality is within acceptable levels the advisory will be lifted. https://loom.ly/XLltEDg
