UPDATE October 7: Island Health has advised that the most recent water tests from Fuller Lake beach indicate contaminants are below the acceptable limits. Signs posted indicating swimming is not recommended are now removed.

⚠️ Due to poor water quality, swimming at Fuller Lake beach is not recommended. Island Health conducts water sample testing at public beaches and pools, and once tests indicate water quality is within acceptable levels the advisory will be lifted. https://loom.ly/XLltEDg

One of the best to ever do it

07/16/2024

Morning everyone!

As the temps climb it’s a good reminder if you are going to haul a trailer, that you ensure that the chains don’t drag on the ground. The sparks can start a road side fire which could lead to a forest fire. Also a reminder to ensure that your trailer bearings are greased and are in good working order before you hit the road. When trailer bearings start to fail they have a tendency to get really hot, and come apart. When they come apart and hot bits of metal can also ignite a roadside fire.

Stay safe gang!

Strong Current Advisory issued for Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, Strong Currents, Variable Wave Height & Sudden Beach Drop-Off - July 16 - 21, 2024.

Visibly, seas will appear relatively calm, followed by larger wave sets that can take visitors off-guard. As a result, visitors may be carried into deeper water towards areas of strong currents and away from the shore. When combined with the lack of personal floatation these situations can become life threatening.

The permanent rip current that surrounds Lovekin Rock will be intensified by the forecasted conditions and should be avoided by all waders, swimmers, and novice surfers.

I drive a lot to get to news stories and one of the many things I notice lately is people speeding right past tow trucks and police cars right next to them.

FYI
In British Columbia, motorists are required to slow down and move over for all vehicles stopped alongside the road that have flashing red, blue or yellow lights. This includes maintenance workers, utility workers, police, fire, ambulance, tow trucks, Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement personnel, land surveyors, animal control workers, garbage collectors and other roadside workers.

Motorists must slow their speed to:

70km/h when in an 80km/h or over zone
40km/h when in an under 80km/h zone
If travelling on a multi-lane road, drivers must move into another lane to pass when passing stopped vehicles with a flashing light, where safe to do so. This provides roadside workers and emergency personnel with greater protection from accident and injury.

Rules and Penalties
Drivers failing to adjust their speed or failing to move over may receive a $173 traffic violation ticket that also carries 3 penalty points. Offences and infractions that include penalty points can lead to a driving prohibition.
