Nova Scotia’s North Shore will be on display next month when the North Shore Artisan Market takes place.
Hosted by the Pictou County Y Service Club - Women, it will be held May 5 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Pictou County Wellness Centre.
The tables are all booked up with 40 artists, artisans and vendors expected to show their works of art, said Pamela Corke, secretary for the organization and chair of the fundraiser.
“It’s not just a Pictou County event, they’re from all across the North Shore,” and further south, she added. “When word of mouth spread, the artists have been reaching out to us.”
Proceeds earned by the Pictou County Y Service Club - Women go toward local food banks, the Pictou County Fuel Fund and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pictou County, which Corke said is “part of our community outreach, to reach out to the organizations that need help.”
“There are a lot of paintings that feature boats and fishing, a lot of things that go on here on the North Shore,” Corke said. “It’s our first annual, so we’re hoping for a good turnout and it’s important for the artists to have a good day, as well.”
There will be painters, artists who work with fabric and textiles, potters, weavers, stained glass artists and other genres. There will also be three food vendors, including The Cake Lady from Lunenburg County.
Corke added that with the event coming the day after New Glasgow’s Art at Night, “it really ties in nicely with our event the next morning.”
Admission is $2, although attendees are encouraged to donate more if they wish.
The Y Service Club - Women has been in Pictou County for 51 years and the national body will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2024.
