The Niagara Peninsula is renowned globally for its production of ice wine, thanks to its unique climate, where the temperature drops low enough to freeze the grapes on the vine, but not too low to damage them. The combination of cool winters and the moderating effect of Lake Ontario creates ideal conditions for producing this sweet, concentrated wine.

Our final Meet the Team spotlight of 2024 is our Security Supervisor, Robert Gauthier! ⁠In his role, Rob works with our Security staff, clients and Guest Services team to ensure the building is secure and our guests are safe during their time at NFCC.

👤: Rob was born and raised in the small town of Elliot Lake, located roughly 130km west of Sudbury. Once Rob was finished high school, he set his sights on the Lone Star State, attending a University in Texas, and moved to Niagara afterwards in 1999. He says he was drawn to the area due in part to the rich history of Niagara, and how so many entrepreneurs have tried their hand at making their riches in Niagara Falls.

💼: Rob has been a part of the NFCC team since our doors opened back in 2011. Originally starting as a security guard, he remembers when the construction crews were scrambling to paint the concrete of our loading dock as our very first client was loading in. After a while, Rob worked his way up to Security Supervisor. Before his time at NFCC, he was posted as security at Crystal Beach’s Bay Beach, worked Security for a company in Hamilton, worked Security at the Cogeneration Station construction site in Thorold and was a stay-at-home Dad raising his two kids!

😎: Rarely in front of the camera (except when the Marketing team calls upon him), you can find Rob behind the lens re-creating old pictures from around the Niagara Region by standing in the same spot as where a picture was taken decades ago. (IG: ) On top of that, he even has his Grade 6 accreditation in Piano from the Royal Conservatory of Music!

😊: When asked what his favourite part of working at NFCC is, he would say the constant cycling of various events, from consumer shows to agriculture trade shows, to volleyball tournaments and theatre worthy performances. There is always something different, every week there’s something fresh and fascinating to learn and exciting people to meet!

We had another successful food recovery exchange with our friends at The Bridge Church last week! Once a large event at our building has ended, it is as simple as safely storing any excess food, calling The Bridge for pick up and passing it along so they can prepare and re-distribute meals to those that need it most.⁠

Next up for our meet the team spotlight is one of our Guest Services Floor Supervisors, Bruce Cote! ⁠In his role, Bruce works with our clients on any concerns while they are on-site, along with helping guests while they attend an event.⁠

👤: Bruce was born and raised right here in Niagara Falls! Never moving far from his roots, Bruce has lived in Niagara his whole life. With his favourite things about the Region being the beauty of the parks and history of the area, it’s no wonder he’s stuck around!⁠

💼: Bruce has been a staple of Niagara Falls Convention Centre since the very beginning, as he has been with our team since the doors opened back in April of 2011. Originally starting in our facilities department, Bruce transferred to his current position in Guest Services this past January. Before his time at NFCC, Bruce worked at Casino Niagara for 10 years in many roles, including as a Players Advantage Attendant and Guest Host.⁠

😎: Ask anyone around NFCC about Bruce and they will say this guy is top shelf! His biggest passion in life is the game of hockey, having played since he was seven years old, and still laces them up to this day! ⁠

😊: When asked what his favourite part of working at NFCC is, he would say getting to see the wide array of events we host in our building, along with the teamwork of the staff that he gets to work alongside on a daily basis. ⁠
