Yoga by Bebi

Yoga by Bebi Welcome to the official page of Yoga By Bebi. Bebi Zabeeda has been teaching yoga around the globe for over 20 years. Everyone is welcome to Yoga by Bebi.

Whether you are new to yoga or long-established at it, my intention is to give help and direction to inspire your efforts and advance your practice. As a child growing up in Guyana, she was given an exposure to the sensitivities that would form her mindfulness, which leads her yoga coaching. A university graduate in Biology and a certified Fitness Trainer, Bebi's teachings are influenced by an awareness of the biomechanics of each pose and their transition.

Cheers to the ladies who attended 6 or more yoga classes during April. We celebrated with a tea at the farm.
As always, I am here for you, to inspire your efforts and advance your learning.
Thanks to you all for the magnificence you bring each time you show up to practice. This picture reflects a part of it.
With gratitude, Bebi.

Hello beautiful members of a caring yoga community.
Last week, I observed a Nordic florist creating an arrangement for her home and it brought a realistation of the Mindfulness exercised. In her home, she brought in just enough to create a needed balance for this time of year; fresh greenery and light. The plant materials were all foraged, which she then took time to arrange, using vessels, containers already on hand. The light source was an amount of quality candles.
How beautiful the achieved warmth. The more we ‘make our own’, the more we fortify the talents we were gifted and the resulting confidence rewards us with a strength that shows up in our physical body.
Let’s build on what we already have and grow our state of body, minds that gain confidence and a spirit honoured by using what we have.
Translating this into our yoga practice this month of December.
Namaste.

Can we join the dots between spirituality and mental health on this world Mental Health Day, 2023, with a practice of yoga?
Bringing yourself to a quiet place, a comfortable position, practice some breathwork for about 10 minutes, (set a timer), inhaling with a sense of awareness, exhaling to release into your position, allowing the physical self to be. Each exhalation may relax you a little further.
Now, it is natural as one relaxes, the creative mind can get busy. Should you find yourself there, do not scold or be frustrated but use this opportunity to be compassionate with your self, your practice and continue your breathwork.
At the sound of your timer, notice how you feel, (without analysing it) after this quiet 10 minutes.
Return your attention to your surroundings and carry on with your day as you feel ready.
Namaste!

Yoga teaching and teachers of yoga have been in Canada for decades now. Arms of yoga have been created to branch off, building products and securing the business.
Events of the past few years have changed the industry dramatically and I've witnessed more need for the benefits we know yoga offers.
What I do know as a teacher is, one cannot continue to approach yoga teaching for one's own benefit, not monetary and not personal fulfillment. Yoga teaching has got to be about the student and it has to come from a place of sensory, sensitivity and the ability to strongly tune-in to the student.
Continue to build on your practice, as a student, as a teacher.
Yoga by Bebi will continue to teach on Mondays and Fridays at 10:15 - 11:15 am at the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre, 14 Anderson Lane and at 982 Line 6 Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake.
Small groups classes and private sessions are available.

The trimurti embodied in the symbol of OM = life on repeat; all around us. Create, preserve, destroy; create, preserve, destroy, brahma, vishnu, shiva; create, preserve, destroy ~ a beautiful reminder this morning as i searched for a creativity mantra.
Reminder: how this is perceived is how you perceive it, this moment.
Have a wonderfully creative day, everybody!

Donna Farhi, one of my teachers when I was training to be a yoga teacher.

"Someone I loved once told me that there are fragments within us
that are the same age as the universe, and because we are matter,
we can never be destroyed. That a part of us will live forever and
ever, and that in making us the universe was celebrating itself,
we are its living, breathing joy."
~ from Wild Embers by Nikita Gill

When we practice Restorative Yoga postures we are essentially reconnecting with the mysterious animating force that is activating, coordinating and assisting communication inside each cell and between all the cells and tissues of the body. https://donnafarhi.co.nz/study/lsc-df-restoratives/

As we descend into deep states of relaxation in supported positions that facilitate the flow of fluids throughout the body, we facilitate the free movement of cellular respiration. This is a deeply vivifying process that can gradually shift chronic hyperarousal of the sympathetic nervous system and anchor us once again into the base support of our parasympathetic nervous system.

For this session, do ensure that the room you are practicing in is warm and without drafts. You may wish to have extra layers of clothing as well as a few extra blankets to cover your body. Click on the link above to register.

As yoga practice shifts from outdoors to warm indoor space, my coaching continues, with participants booking times suitable to their schedule. It's personal.
With hatha yoga including floor postures, the advantage of practicing in my studio space is that I can manage the cleanliness of the surface and maintain well aerated space. It's comforting.
Drop-in classes are $15./ one hour session.
Never more than 3 person practicing each session, means healthy spacing also.
Create warmth from within, while you practice your yoga and bring balance into your everyday.
Namaste.

Hello Friends

There has been some evolution of space and offerings, relevant to my teaching yoga.
Recently, I have been fortunate to make my home, on a farm, in Niagara on the Lake. The farm, at 982 Line 6 Road, offers a pastoral space, with a spring fed pond, established trees and friendly farm animals.
Among all of this serenity, is my outdoor yoga studio; a deck under soothing willow trees, overlooking the pond. The feel is that of an adult tree house!

If you ever wish to organise among your friends, peers, clients, family, a group of less than 7, for an hour of yoga, I will be very pleased to be your yoga coach.
The group fee for an hour of yoga coaching is $60.

Always with encouragement and respect for your physical function, I can now also offer you a tranquil space conducive to simplicity, peace and healing when necessary.

I especially like this summary read from DailyOM today:

Five Minutes to Happiness
It can be so easy to get caught up in the rigors of modern life that we tend to forget that happiness need not come with stipulations. In reality, overwhelming joy is not the exclusive province of those with unlimited time and no troubles to speak of. We can learn to make time for those simple yet superb pleasures that can be enjoyed.

So much that is ecstasy-inducing can be accomplished in five minutes. Alone, we can enjoy an aromatic cup of our favourite tea, take a stroll through the garden we have created, write about the day's events in a journal, doodle while daydreaming, or breathe deeply while we listen to the silence around us. In the company of a good friend or treasured relative, we can share a few silly jokes, enjoy a waltz around the room, play a fast-paced hand of cards, or reconnect through light-hearted conversation. The key is to first identify what makes us (dizzyingly) happy. If we do only what we believe should bring us contentment, our five minutes will not be particularly satisfying. When we allow ourselves the freedom to do whatever brings us pleasure, five minutes out of 14 wakeful hours can brighten our lives immeasurably.

It is often when we have the least free time or energy to devote to joy, that we need to unwind and enjoy ourselves the most. Making happiness a priority will help you find five minutes every day to indulge in the things that inspire elation within you. Eventually, your happiness breaks will become an established part of your routine. If you start by pursuing activities you already enjoy and then gradually think up new and different ways to fill your daily five minutes of happiness, you will never be without something to smile about.

The quote is from Oprah but it suits me nicely.
"If you peel back the layers of your life--the frenzy, the noise--stillness is waiting. That stillness is you."
What challenges my stillness; rattles my cage, jangles me or pi**es me off ~these are my teachers. I am to evolve through these learnings to my higher spirit self ❤
This painting for example, is one I have a bit of shame to show and want to disown it. What will I learn from this precarious emotion?

A little excerpt from my practice notes today:~

When things are not going as planned, even with the best yogic intentions, it is natural to feel disrupted as the goals are held determinedly and attempts are forced to make things go our way. In the process, we tie ourselves in knots, tensing our shoulders, jaws, and muscles throughout our bodies.
Let go and allow the universe to run its course, of which we are a part of. Breathe, release. Breathe, release. Breathe, release.

The many landscapes of where we place our mats: the physical (support), the environment, the architectural (north-south, east-west orientation).
Mindful placement; sense it all. Maybe there is no mat; feet on grass. What do you sense?
The sun's placement on earth today, on your body, on the length of your mat. Where isn't the sun? Can you inhale it's energy and transport it, mindfully?
Solstice energy this day :)

The challenge each moment is in how to still the soul in the midst of activities. In fact the trial is 'how to feed the soul',
~ that immutable, divinely-guided, infinitely intelligent essence that makes us the unique beings that we are: the soul.
Realizing our deepest yearnings is soul work; now to uncover and nourish those yearnings.
How are you feeding your soul?
When I am teaching yoga, the beautiful alchemy of intellectual stimulation, words carefully laced together in encouragement, colour play and deep sensing... all aspects which feed my soul, come into fruition.
