Jane’s email. The February 21st Deep Cove Coffee House.

“Another great concert is coming your way! It is the second event in our winter / spring 2025 Deep Cove Coffee House season hosted by our local luminary, John Lyon! This month’s Friday, February 21st coffee house features The Bill C**n Trio at 9:00pm with 2 terrific opening acts: The Forget-Me-Notes and Presley Murillo & Emilio Suarez at 7:30pm. The concert is taking place at our usual venue, Mount Seymour United Church, 1200 Parkgate Ave, North Vancouver (details and directional map at end of e-mail).

About our lineup:

Feature: The Bill C**n Trio at 9:00pm

The trio is Bill C**n on guitar (https://www.billcoon.com/), Darren Radtke on acoustic bass and Dave Robbins on drums. These three performers are talented mainstays of our Canadian music scene. Bill who has been a frequent performer at our coffee house and many other venues around town is one of Canada’s most highly respected musicians and was the winner of the 2009 National Jazz Awards, ‘Guitarist of the Year’. Performing professionally for over thirty years, he has played with many significant jazz artists including Jimmy Heath, Chuck Israels, Eddie Daniels, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Bucky Pizzarelli, Sheila Jordan, Hugh Fraser, P.J. Perry, Campbell Ryga, Ian McDougall, Phil Dwyer, Dave Restivo, Brad Turner, Carol Welsman, Fred Stride, Dee Daniels, and Rebecca Kilgore. Joining Bill on bass is Darren Radtke www.rhythmchanges.ca/darren-radtke-bass). Here is what Karin Plato has to say about him and his musical talent, “… I invited Darren to sing a song as part of my mini-invitational Joy of Jazz concert series where we played together. Once again, the musicality Darren expressed when singing floored me. Such musical depth and honesty!” Rounding out the trio is Dave on drums (https://daverobbins.com/bio/) one of Canada's premier jazz drummers and a first-rate composer, arranger and jazz educator who has played music all over the world. What an amazing trio of musicians for our feature!

Opening Acts at 7:30pm

The Forget-Me-Notes with Bill Piggott on piano. The Forget-Me-Notes are Georgia Hill, Anne Harvie and Ruth Nyman. They sing an eclectic mix of genres – swing, country and western, indie folk. “We love spending time together, we make each other laugh – a lot. And most of all we love to sing and make harmonies together”. Bill Piggott, on piano, is a recent addition to the trio. He is a retired school music teacher who now gets to play music purely for the fun of it and he enjoys making music with Anne, Georgia and Ruth.

Pressley Murillo & Emilio Suarez: Accomplished local musicians Pressley and Emilio have been playing all over the lower mainland of Vancouver, showcasing a unique pairing of Jazz Cello and voice. They hope you enjoy hearing some of your favorite jazz standards reimagined, and are very pleased to perform for you at our upcoming coffee house.

Deep Cove Coffee House is blessed to be able to feature another incredible line-up of musicians thanks to our amazing MC, John Lyon. We look forward to seeing you there.

Ally Jedrzejek (vocals), David Caballero (upright bass) & Ben Kyle (guitar) will be performing a mix of standards, Jazz, folk & pop. Ally honed her craft as a vocalist performing with various tribute acts across North America and the Caribbean. Ally has also been a familiar face on the musical scene across the greater Toronto area for the last decade. In 2019, she relocated to Vancouver (our good fortune!) to pursue her BMus and is now a graduate of the Capilano University Jazz Studies Education program. She continues to vibe as a vocal instructor and singer song writer on the west coast. David Caballero emerged quickly on the Vancouver scene and is one of our city's leading lights on bass. Ben Kyle is a session guitarist, singer/songwriter and composer who plays across a variety of genres - jazz, funk, folk and rock. Together they are an amazing young trio of performers who will dazzle you with their craft.

Tomorrow (Friday) night.

In addition to the great Michael Creber and family (second set), I will be joined by some very musical friends.

A long time ago, the CNIB put together a showcase of blind and visually impaired musicians. I was lucky enough to perform with these talented musicians at the Queen Elizabeth Playhouse Theatre. Next we toured British Columbia together, and finally we performed for ten days at the Arts Club Theatre.

For years it has been on my mind to bring these talented musicians friends together for a performance.

We hope to see you tomorrow evening at the Deep Cove Coffee House.

See poster fro details.

June 21st will be a special evening.

In addition to Michael Creber and Family

Opening feature set

John Lyon and Friends

For many years it has been on my mind to organize a concert featuring musical friends from the blind community.

Several of us performed together many years ago, and on occasion have enjoyed some fabulous jam sessions since then.

Marilyn Rushton, Peg Mercer, Diana Brent, Betty Nobel, and Richard Marion, are superb musicians and performers. I learned a great deal from Marilyn, Peg, and Diana, plus original members Mary Brunner, BrianLendrum, Linda Jentz, and Patricia Palmer when we performed together many years ago at a CNIB-sponsored concert at the Queen Elizabeth Playhouse Theatre. We spent a month together the following summer on a bus touring British Columbia, and also performed together for a week-long engagement at the Arts Club Theatre in Vancouver.

We are proud to include Betty Nobel and Richard Marion in this long overdu reunion.
