Many of you may recognise this hat. Gord’s favourite First Avenue cap from the famous Minneapolis nightclub, worn regularly in his later years. We, along with First Avenue, have created an original version of the classic cap, complete with the special touch of Gord’s signature embroidered on the side. All their proceeds will go to the Downie Wenjack Fund.

To accompany the hat we’ve screen printed David Bastedo Studio’s famous “Shy Guy” photo featuring Gord in the cap onto a unisex t-shirt.

We hope you love these additions. Check them out at https://gorddownie.com/collections/frontpage

This seems like an appropriate time to share this picture. David Bastedo took this shot and then generously gave it to me after our last tour. I love it because it’s just a great example of Gord checking in on me, making sure I was doing alright, and that I was still right there with him. He did that sort of thing with each of us during the course of any shows we played, making sure we were ok, and that we were loving playing together just like he was.

In May of 2016, the country learned that it would soon lose one of its beloved patriots, Gord Downie.

The Tragically Hip announced it's final tour for the Man Machine Poem, only crossing the west side of the country to accommodate Gord's healthcare. With every ticket purchased, The Hip would donate a portion to Sunnybrook Hospital Cancer Research.

Within a few days, 'ticketbots' and cash-grabbers would dominate the system, leaving devoted fans the only options of purchasing tickets in upwards of $5000 each. This was beyond disgusting and outrage was everywhere.

I was on my way to Georgian College to review notes for the first of my midterms in my final semester, when I learned on the radio that The Hip 'added a few more dates to give fans more chances at tickets'. This angered me. Adding a few more dates wasn't going to change the system, nor the greed. A disruption was needed to de-value those tickets and take some pressure off of the fellas that grew up not far from me.

By the time I got to the library at Georgian, my mid-term review went out the window. I wrote a letter to the head of CBC at the time, requesting to broadcast the final Kingston show cross-platform, making it available world-wide so that all Hip fans could celebrate with the fellas, one last time. I decided to post it on Change.org in hopes others would sign it and get CBC's attention. Honestly I didn't think it would be seen by many people, but I felt good about writing it anyway. I closed my laptop, powered off my phone and off I went to write my midterm. When I powered back on, I realized that EVERYTHING hit the fan. [😄] Ticket prices started dropping and the signatures piled on that petition to over 31 000. CBC made it official on June 17th.

31 000 people helped:
• take $ out of ticket gouger pockets
• bring The Hip to the world for 1 last time
• initiate extra fundraising efforts from homes to Drive-ins and so on, across the country totaling over a million dollars on the big day
What an amazing thing to be a part of. [❤️]
