To our lovely Whine N' Grind supporters & community...
Due to the Coronavirus now spreading in Odawa, we have decided to postpone our launch party that was originally planned for tomorrow, Saturday March 14th 2020, until further notice.
Although there is much hysteria and panic happening in the world right now, and much of it is not based on fact or is coming from a racist, xenophobic place, we do acknowledge that this virus is a threat to older folks and folks with autoimmune diseases and compromised immune systems due to chronic illness and disabilities. It's important to us that everyone in our community of Caribbean q***r-trans folks and (QT)BIPOC feel safe and able to show up to our events when their heart and waistline desires.
For folks who have already purchased tickets through Eventbrite, you will receive an e-mail sometime this weekend that asks you to request a refund. Once you request it, we will be able to reimburse you the money you purchased for this event. We are not sure how long it takes for the refund to be made, but hope to have more specific details for you soon and will contact you through email about this.
We are sad to not be jookin' and whinin' wit allyuh this Saturday, but have hope that this fete will be just as amazing (maybe even better) when things feel safer some time in the future. Whine N' Grind is postponed, NOT cancelled πŸ˜‰
For folks that need assistance during this outbreak and for folks that have capacity to help with assistance in our city, there is a Facebook group set up called "COVID-19 Community Care Ottawa". This page is where care plans will be made. For those of you feeling unsure or unsafe - remember there are realistic ways to be prepared. Make sure you stay informed through factual evidence and find doable preventative measures! Message us if you need any reliable resources.
See you some time very soon,
Whine N' Grind Organizers,
DJ TRINIDADDY & MusicByJayel

The Aids Committe of Ottawa (ACO) provides support, prevention, education and outreach services from an integrated, anti-racism, anti-oppression social justice framework that promotes the holistic well-being of those living with, affected by, impacted by and at risk of HIV/AIDS in Ottawa.

These teams include physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, dietitians, health promoters, early childhood educators, counsellors and others.

ACCESSIBILITY NOTES FOR OUR LAUNCH PARTY. 5 DAYS AWAY! πŸŽ‰πŸŒ΄πŸŽ‰
VENUE: Saw Gallery / CLUB SAW (67 Nicholas Street, Ottawa, ON K1N 7B9)

β†’ CLUB SAW is physically accessible. There is a ramp to enter & exit the space towards Nicholas Street. Washrooms are accessible and there is a lift backstage for folks with mobility devices to get on & off stage. The sound technician booth behind the bar is not accessible to mobility devices. There are automatic door openers with every door in the space. There will be chairs available on the sides & back of the club to sit if needed. Maximum capacity of the space is 285 people.
β†’ Q***r & trans folks from the Caribbean diaspora, & other q***r & trans Black folks, Indigenous folks, and people of colour are given priority in this space. They are encouraged to dance in the front. We ask other folks attending to respect this & have fun in the back.
β†’ The event has free parking outside the venue on weekends & off surrounding streets. The closest bus terminal to the venue is Mackenzie King station & it is a 5 minute walk to/from the venue. The 9 to Hurdman also runs off Daly / Nicholas & is a 2 minute walk to/from the venue. There is no walk home service with this event so we suggest folks plan out walking buddies in advance if needed.
β†’ There are 2 single-person washrooms that are gender neutral & accessible for mobility devices.
β†’ The space will have strong bass & loud music. There is seating in the back available where sound will be less loud.
β†’ Lighting will include lasers on the dancefloor & colour-changing spot-lights on the stage. The space is dimly lit in the hall near the washrooms, darker in the club space, & well-lit in the back near the entrance. The lighting near the entrance & bar is white light.
β†’ Alcohol will be sold at this event. There will be community outreach with folks trained to use Naloxone in the space as well.
β†’ Food will be served at this event. The main dishes are meat & vegetarian. The desserts are all vegan. Some items contain dairy & almonds. More info on specfic ingredients to come.
