ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: RICK LAPLANTE

Born in a small village in the rural Mongolian steppes, Rick Laplante was raised by a family of nomadic disco-dancing bears. From a young age, Rick was fascinated by the mystical powers of house music and spent countless hours practicing his DJ skills on a makeshift setup made from a toaster, a vacuum cleaner, 73 minty toothpicks, and a few scraps of vinyl. After a chance encounter with a time-traveling Grandmaster Flash, Rick's talents were discovered and he was catapulted to fame with his debut single "Techno Tacos for Everyone," which topped the charts in several alternate dimensions.

Since then, Rick has gone on to achieve unparalleled success, winning numerous awards, including the prestigious "Golden Pancake" award for most creative use of breakfast food in a DJ set. He's performed at some of the world's most renowned clubs, including the legendary "Ministry of Silly Walks" in London and the infamous "Disco Dungeon" in Berlin.

When he's not busy spinning tracks or eating tacos, Rick can be found mentoring young DJs at his Ottawa-based "School of Hard Knocks and Soft Synths." With his signature blend of funky beats, witty banter, and impressive knob-twiddling, Rick Laplante is a true legend in the world of house music.

is an Ottawa-based DJ passionate about music, experimenting with different genres from techno to deep house to progressive. Her sets are inspired by her travels where she seeks out music and inspiration from DJs around the world. In 2024, LX has grown in Ottawa, playing regularly in the after hours scene and opening for international DJs such as Gene Farris and RSCL. She is a resident of Groove Society, a weekly event hosted on Friday nights at Poa Tiki Bar, promoting groovy energy and a bumping dance floor all night long.

is one of the Real OGs of the Ottawa house and dance communities. His journey as a DJ has spanned 35 years, a pioneer and visionary for the Canadian House movement.

Over the years he has played and hosted events with headliners such as Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez, Chus & Ceballos, David Morales, Deep Dish and more. Holding residencies and regular appearances at legendary venues like Atomic, Velvet Icon, Surface, Mercury Lounge, Stereo Mtl, Circus Mtl, Industry TO, Guvernment TO, Wiggle Room TO, and City At Night, In short Joe has been making local and international dance floors everywhere groove for over three decades.

His latest project called Groove Society is a Friday night party featuring the best local and national Dj's. It encourages a "No phones or no video taping on the dance floor" A celebration of the vibe and moment. An evening escape through human connections and killer House music!

Joe's passion for the music is what still drives him to give more to the community. His sets always bring a promise of timeless beats and unstoppable energy. His gospel takes place on the decks with the love and guarantee to keep the spirit of House alive— see you on the dancefloor!

White Rabbit Ottawa has launched a new event series bringing together musically-aligned local promotion collectives to showcase the cutting edge of house and tech-house. This collaborative effort embodies the values of house music culture: inclusivity, creativity, and self-expression. By providing a platform for innovative talent and fostering cooperation among local promoters, we aim to strengthen the fabric of our vibrant community and keep the spirit of underground dance music thriving in Ottawa.

GROOVE SOCIETY:
A new project spear-headed by veteran taste-maker and community-builder of Ottawa's house music scene, Joe Juarez. GROOVE SOCIETY events are all about the music, and the human connections on the dancefloor, encouraging a no phones on the dancefloor policy. You can catch them every Friday night at Poa Tiki Bar on Dalhousie Street in Ottawa.
