Education is a huge component of what we do. Unfortunately, Dr. Google isn’t very accurate… getting an assessment is your best first step.

If you’ve ever heard this or said it, we understand what you mean. But our chiropractors enjoy explaining anatomy using a different set of words.
When we hear this phrase, we're happy to explain it. Disc injuries are categorized based on location and degree of injury, ex. disc bulge, or herniation (protrusion, prolapse, extrusion, sequestration). This is when the disc material (nucleus pulposus) breaks through several, if not all, the external fibres (annulus fibrosus). The annulus is a tough fibrocartilaginous material.
Intervetebral discs are found between the bony segments of our spine and are *firmly* attached to your vertebrae by the endplate and many ligaments. And so if we interpret the phrase “slipped disc” in a literal sense, it isn’t a very accurate description. Our spines are quite robust and nothing like a slippery jenga tower.. phewf
That's GOOD NEWS though!
Even more, disc injury is the underlying etiology in < 5% of patients with back pain.
Getting an assessment can help ease anxiety, enable a better understanding and empower your ability to manage your injury.
