Pick Ontario kept the wheels on our bus during the pandemic. Proud of the beautiful product the Pick Ontario growers deliver. 🌿🌿💐💐

My parents came here from the Netherlands with nothing; our farm was started on hard work and a dream.

They borrowed money and took a risk. They bought a parcel of land and put up a few greenhouses. My dad still drove truck part time and he and mom worked in the greenhouse together.

We started with one greenhouse. As we grew slowly, we were all able to start working here as a family.

My entire family has been involved in the greenhouse in some way and I think my dad would be very proud of that. I wish he could see us continuing his legacy. I love that my mom is still with us. She’s always loved the greenhouse and she always had the most beautiful garden.

My nephew (26) also works here. He has special needs, and every day when he comes in he is so excited to be here. He absolutely loves working. He comes over to our place for dinner every Sunday and he is already talking about work on Monday. That is honestly a highlight for me, having my nieces and nephews around.

I am very proud of our entire business. We produce good quality flowers. I am proud that although my father started with so little, so many of his grandchildren will benefit from the hard work and the work ethic has been passed on.

I go back to Holland and visit often. My father has eight siblings still living there and I have many cousins. If I had to pick a favourite flower I would say Gerberas, because they are bright and colourful.

Mes parents ont emprunté de l’argent et ont pris un risque. Ils ont acheté une parcelle de terrain et ont installé quelques serres. Mon père conduisait encore un camion à temps partiel et lui et maman travaillaient ensemble dans la serre.
Nous avons commencé avec une serre. En grandissant, nous avons commencé à travailler ici en famille.

Toute ma famille s’est impliquée d’une manière ou d’une autre dans la serre et je pense que mon père en serait très fier. J’aimerais qu’il puisse nous voir entretenir son héritage. J’aime que ma mère soit toujours avec nous. Elle a toujours aimé la serre et elle a toujours eu le plus beau jardin.

Mon neveu de 26 ans travaille également ici. Il a des besoins spéciaux et chaque jour, quand il vient, il est vraiment heureux d’être ici! Il adore travailler. Il vient dîner chez nous tous les dimanches et il parle déjà de travail le lundi. Avoir mes nièces et neveux autour de moi, c’est vraiment important pour moi.

Je suis très fière de notre entreprise. Nous produisons des fleurs de bonne qualité. Même si mon père a commencé avec si peu, je suis fière que tant de ses petits-enfants tireront profit du travail acharné et de l’éthique du travail qui lui a été transmise.

Je retourne souvent aux Pays-Bas et je leur rends visite. Mon père a huit frères et sœurs qui vivent encore là-bas et j’ai de nombreux cousins. Si je devais choisir une fleur préférée, je dirais les gerberas, car elles sont lumineuses et colorées. »
