It's almost Easter!! 🎨🐰🐣
That means messy egg decor!
Did you know you can make your own egg dyes? All you need is fruits, veggies, spices or juice! The rule of thumb (lol), if it stains your hands, it'll dye your eggs. 😄
There are 2 kinds of Natural Dyes:
BOILED & UNBOILED
💦 BOILED DYES:
Makes 1 Cup
BRING 2 cups Water to a boil.
ADD Coloring Agent. (See below).
REDUCE heat and simmer for 30 mins.
STRAIN liquid into a glass jar. (stains plastic)
COOL to room temp.(2-3 hrs).
STIR in 1 tbsp. White Vinegar PER 1 Cup.
ADD Hard-Boiled Eggs until submerged.
SEAL Jar.
REFRIGERATE overnight or until desired color.
🎨 How Much Color To Use:
(On White Eggs/On Brown Eggs)
Pink/Maroon = 2 cups Shredded Red Beets
Orange/Rust = 1 cup Yellow Onion Skins
Yellow/Golden = 3 tbsp Ground Turmeric
Lavender/Red = 1 cup Red Onion Skin
Blue/Green = 2 cups Shredded Red Cabbage
Light Green/Forest Green = 2 cups Spinach
☕ UNBOILED DYES:
ADD liquid into jar. (See below)
STIR in 1 tbsp. White Vinegar PER 1 cup.
ADD Hard-Boiled Eggs.
SEAL Jar.
🎨 What Liquid To Use:
(On White Eggs/On Brown Eggs)
Pink/Maroon = Cranberry Juice
Red = Pomegranate Juice
Blue/Dark Blue = Blueberry Juice
Brown/Dark Brown = Brewed Coffee
✨CHEF TIPS!
🥚White & Brown eggs give different colors.
🎨The longer the eggs are soaked, the more intense the colors.
🖍️Draw on the eggs with crayons before dying. The wax won’t absorb the color so the designs will stay!
⚡Wrap rubber bands around the egg and watch them tie-dye. Remove the rubber bands after the eggs are dry.
🧽 Once dyed, dab eggs with a sponge for a textured look. Let Dry.
🌟Rub dried eggs with vegetable oil for a shinier finish!
Happy Dyeing! 😊♥️
