Well fresh fish seems to be the theme for many fishermen and fish lovers up here on the Lake Huron Coastline this week! At Culinary Cateting we are no different. A recent client wanted sea bass. So sea bass it was! May not come from Lake Huron, but we always try to give the customer what they want!

So hats off to all those who have entered the 40th Annual Chantry Chinook Classic Salmon Derby and wishing you all smooth waters and good luck at the weigh stations.

DETAILS ON THE DERBY:
Anglers are invited to participate in the event running until Aug. 4 to reel in the largest salmon and trout they can in select waters around Lake Huron and Georgian Bay.

Weigh stations have been set up at the harbours in Kincardine, Port Elgin, and Lion’s Head, as well as at Lures N Lines in Wiarton. The stations will weigh the fish between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily.

The Walleye category is a new feature being introduced this year, with the winner set to receive $500.

The junior category is also making its return with young anglers invited to reel in salmon to place on the leaderboard. Kids Day is set for July 27, and participants are encouraged to pre-register here.

As part of the 40th anniversary event, each ticket has the chance to win a fly-in fishing trip, valued at $4,000, as well as a $2,500 gift card to No Limits Live Edge Customs, and a barbecue valued at $1,500.

Thank you to all the Town of Saugeen Shores staff including summer students for making the Cenotaph Park so beautiful and neat and tidy! Looks amazing! Can see it out my back door of my business! See many people of all ages and using this park to rest and some get shade! Making Downtown Port Elgin look beautiful! And if no one has told you today “Job well done!”

Saluting those brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives and thankful for those who came home so we could be free….

This is the 80th anniversary of D-Day.

June 6, 1944, marked the beginning of the bloody 11-week Battle of Normandy and the start of the Allied liberation of France. Almost 160,000 troops landed on the beaches of Normandy that day, including around 14,000 Canadians

Please note the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 340 here in Port Elgin will be holding a short ceremony this morning (Thursday) at 11 am at the Cenotaph Park on Mill Street (beside Port Elgin Post Office).

To all veterans thank you for your service.
