Part 2

We created a harvest-inspired floral installation with sustainable mechanics and ingredients straight from our central Alberta flower farm (most of the flowers are mine and many of the edibles again are from .ab) we used tomato vines, flowering leeks, zinnias, snapdragons, sunflowers, flowering cilantro, bupleurum, and more to create this design which is like and over-flowing abundant harvest bin, using the sconce to anchor it securely. I also happened to have these antique milk crates and cream jars which we used as take-home bud vase gifts for the guests.

So excited how it turned out and the event itself was just amazing. Amazing to have an open farm days experience that is truly farm-to-table and hands on learning : to see, smell and taste the offerings that local food and farms work so hard to create. What an opportunity, all around. Thank you again to everyone who put this together!

I didn’t mean to take such a long break my friends!

I was facing two jam-packed weeks in my business, when my little one misplaced my phone and a cascade of other tech problems happened to lock me out of everything. Finally now things are sorted out and I am back on Instagram.

Super lame! I am sorry if you tried to message me or wondered where I was - I would have posted so many things on my stories, if I had been able to!

It has been a jam-packed few weeks at Hummingbee.

Flowers of all shapes and sizes coming out of here, I tell you! I’ve been picking beautiful large orders, designing for some fantastic events and we had a workshop as well.

Things are moving and evolving quickly! Can’t wait to post more and catch you up to speed 😍😘

This beautiful order is for and it went out this morning.

I love flowers.

Four blooming beauties!

… and me!

Some flower friends came over to the farm the other day. We bought and sold stems from eachother for our various orders and projects, and as always, enjoyed the company and laughs.

I love these ladies, each of us has our own strengths and talents, we all share a love for flowers and a bit of grit as fellow entrepreneurs and growers. 👩‍🌾 I personally find it’s better together, when it comes to this business!

We have been working together to provide beauty to central Alberta, together we’re able to get better selection, longer harvest windows and more product when needed. Our clients benefit from our co-operation.

Get in touch with us for flowers this summer! You know who to call.

I’m making up some bouquets next week for Mother’s Day!

I will be bringing some beauties to Rose & Holly in Blackfalds- a super cute boutique with locally handmade gifts 🩷

They’ll be ready and available at the shop next Friday May 10th!

Right now, we’re just starting to get our first flowers of the year, so I am sourcing some gorgeous flowers to add to what we have, as well as some fresh local tulips. They’re going to be gorgeous. Price point is reasonable, small to medium sizes for $30-$40 each.

Once we get blooming, I’ll be bringing fresh bouquets to Rose & Holly every week, as well! So be sure to check in to the shop and give them a follow!

💐🙌

Love shopping local? One of the best ways is to support your local small farmers. When we say your products were grown with love, we mean it!

As with many small farms, one of the ways we sell our flowers is through subscriptions. A farm subscription is usually a pay-ahead-of-the-season model, which is often known as a C.S.A. (Community Supported Agriculture) subscription.

Essentially, you are purchasing a small share of our seasonal flower crop and we’re committed to bringing you the bounty as it grows.. in this setting, it helps the farmer to secure our customers ahead of time, and focus on the growing during farming season, instead of the selling. It’s a great model, and one that you can feel good about supporting.

Guess what… Bouquet Subscriptions are BACK BABY!

What can I say, I had to do it 🤓

… some of you may remember I said a while back that we weren’t going to have subscriptions this year, but I changed my mind,.. *phewf*

We’re doing a bi-weekly, 6 bouquet subscription program which will run from July 11th - September 18th

Our subscription holders will receive the very best blooms from our seasonal flower farm. Bouquet size is approximately 15 stems (medium size) - delivery/pickup days will be on select Wednesdays and Thursdays.

I miss this little guy or gal! This giant Nevada bumblebee was one of a pair of two which would be found daily bumbling around the larkspur patch and delphiniums this last summer. It must have been their favourite.

These bees were comically large and sounded like a drone zooming nearby. When they nestle into a flower, the whole stalk bends under their weight. You know the ones!

One of the best parts of gardening is getting to watch the miniature goings-on. It is therapeutic and a bit magical! This is one of the big reasons why I am so drawn to pollinator gardening and want to share it.

This photo was taken from my pollinator patch and I see it as a testament to the success of our seed collection coming to fruition and doing exactly what it was intended to do, create this fantastic and bountiful environment for them and you to share.

What do you do in the winter time? A question which is constantly asked to the seasonal Flower farmer.

Upgrade. Study. Create. Dream. Learn. Learn. Learn. Practice. Go deeper, hone it, refine it, realign it.

My life hack? I spend my winters clicking “yes” to all the above. In the past I’ve taken many courses on floristry, business, illustration, design, funnels, self development, photography, crypto, health&wellness, farming, permaculture, and more.

I am discerning but I don’t automatically reject ads for e-learning that come my way and let me tell you, it has served me well. There is so much you can learn for free if you choose. And sometimes, it may just be worth it to take out the old wallet and shell out for an amazing program. So after years of doing the free version of many programs on the world renowned “MindValley” platform I went for it and bought a membership to upgrade my life and learn from the best.

That was about 6 weeks ago, and I will never look back. I have stepped through a hidden doorway somehow in my life that would have forever gone unopened if I had not said yes to myself and begun my Quest.

Right now I am taking this profound course called “The Art of Manifestation” with Regan Hillyer. The things I’ve learned and applied already has transformed my confidence, self image, my home, my projects and my relationship with god. It is bringing it into a higher place, but one which I always knew, hoped and felt deeply was most real. It’s like having a map of how to get to the destination you want to get to in life. It’s just funny it took me so long to say “yes”.

What could you say “yes” to which could change your life for the better?

Harvesting chamomile today 😊

These cute little blooms are one of my favorite medicinal teas. The taste and scent is sweet, with notes of pineapple and a waxiness which reminds me a bit of crayons.

The actions of the herb are digestive, soothing/calming to the nervous system, and vulnerary which means it’s healing for skin and interior tissues as well such as the stomach. It’s one of the herbs most suited to children, generally well recieved and very few contraindications other than if you are allergic to the daisy family it should be avoided.

I like to pair chamomile with calendula for a recipe with extra healing power - both as a lovely, yellow tea but also topically such as in a salve or skin wash.

I’m going to be drying, freeze drying, and creating hydrosols with this crop here!

About a row of it is ready now and I’m really engulfed in the smell it is quite an experience!! 😌

Check out this DIY order - curated for someone with excellent taste in colour! These are to be made into wedding centrepieces this weekend. My absolute favourite - a High summer colour pallete with hints of fall - this order features dahlias, rudbeckia, scabiosa, zinnias, red cosmos, bicolour sunflowers with bupleurum & amaranth for filler.

This could be you! Are you looking for fresh flowers for your event this September? Or perhaps for next year? I can help :) when you choose locally grown blooms instead of imports, you are jumping right into our season of life and beauty - nature often will have her say in what is available, and so often, if you are a little bit flexible in allowing us to do our thing, you end up with the most stunning, fresh and beautiful blooms to create with. As someone who tried floral design for the first time ever doing my own wedding flowers years ago, I know the feeling of wanting to touch, play and design these most special elements of your day and I am so excited to offer DIY flowers now, years later, to those who want the same for their event.

DM me for any questions!
