I haven’t posted about what’s been going on with me lately. I am hardly working, and you may all have noticed. Losing a brother is a next-level pain that I can’t describe. It has stopped me in my tracks and I have not been able to move forward. I was reluctant to share my feelings about this on my public platforms, but since what I do is incredibly personal and dependant on my own wellbeing, I think it’s necessary.

You can’t rush your healing.

After losing Dad, his wife Dorothy, Auntie Marjorie and then my marriage in 4 years, I pushed through and didn’t take a pause. I got s**t done. I had to.

But this time, Grief isn’t giving me that option. At all. It’s making me feel not only all of the feelings of losing Kevin, but also all of that grief/pain/anger/sadness/dysfunction that I shoved down. It all came back with a vengeance.

Grief has taken me OUT so many times this past week. I’m stuck on a constant loop that feels like that initial shock over and over.

Work seems like an impossible task right now, being that I photograph families, siblings, couples in love and more.

My heart is in my throat all of the time and I can burst into tears in any second, and often do. I have never felt pain like this. Grief is cruel, but it is also beautiful. If I didn’t have the greatest honour of loving my brother, I wouldn’t know this particular version of Grief. So in a way that I don’t yet understand, I’m grateful for this.

Even though we were rudely interrupted by an overly enthusiastic beach “Karen” trying to keep us from getting to our shoot location, Dayle and Terry made the trek to the spot on foot. These are the kinds of couples I love. Up for anything and super easy going.

Congrats Terry & Dayle, your wedding day was perfection!!

I highly recommend carving out 15-20 mins during your reception to sneak out for some golden sunset photos. It is often a much needed break in the busy day to reconnect and take a breather-plus those images tend to be my couples’ favourites. It doesn’t always work out due to timing, weather or even location but it’s worth it when we can.

I absolutely adore this family. I’ve worked with them since their engagement (and what a fun time that was!), both girls’ newborns and sitter sessions and family sessions in between.

A modern & romantic wedding celebration at Hotel Saskatchewan

“What do I wear to my bo***ir session” was one of the most commonly asked questions recently. I know it can be overwhelming to think about the hassle of ordering lingerie for your shoot. This is why I have started a wardrobe for my guests to use for your sessions. I’m constantly adding unique and beautiful pieces in a variety of sizes. It is so important to love what you are wearing. They need to fit well (ill fitting and pieces that are too small can be an instant confidence crusher) and they need to flatter your favourite assets. Notice I said “your” favourite. You can wear as much or as little coverage as you want. Bodysuits and teddies are great for those who want coverage through the middle. I have so many beautiful options for this here in my wardrobe. Sheer lace bra and g-string sets look incredible on women who want to show more and push some limiting beliefs aside.
