Have you ever met someone who instantly becomes a staple in your life? This is my staple. Thick, thin, hard and easy, she’s been my lighthouse through the toughest storms.

Sarah is a passionate nurse and coach who helps those navigating their own storms in cancer form. She leads with compassion, kindness, peace and hope. Her calm and nurturing nature makes it possible for those she works with to navigate their cancer diagnosis. Her philosophy is that our bodies want to heal themselves, but just need to remember how.

I haven’t posted about what’s been going on with me lately. I am hardly working, and you may all have noticed. Losing a brother is a next-level pain that I can’t describe. It has stopped me in my tracks and I have not been able to move forward. I was reluctant to share my feelings about this on my public platforms, but since what I do is incredibly personal and dependant on my own wellbeing, I think it’s necessary.

You can’t rush your healing.

After losing Dad, his wife Dorothy, Auntie Marjorie and then my marriage in 4 years, I pushed through and didn’t take a pause. I got s**t done. I had to.

But this time, Grief isn’t giving me that option. At all. It’s making me feel not only all of the feelings of losing Kevin, but also all of that grief/pain/anger/sadness/dysfunction that I shoved down. It all came back with a vengeance.

Grief has taken me OUT so many times this past week. I’m stuck on a constant loop that feels like that initial shock over and over.

Work seems like an impossible task right now, being that I photograph families, siblings, couples in love and more.

My heart is in my throat all of the time and I can burst into tears in any second, and often do. I have never felt pain like this. Grief is cruel, but it is also beautiful. If I didn’t have the greatest honour of loving my brother, I wouldn’t know this particular version of Grief. So in a way that I don’t yet understand, I’m grateful for this.

Even though we were rudely interrupted by an overly enthusiastic beach “Karen” trying to keep us from getting to our shoot location, Dayle and Terry made the trek to the spot on foot. These are the kinds of couples I love. Up for anything and super easy going.
