Sugar Tree Company

Sugar Tree Company At Sugar Tree Company, my goal is to create something beautiful, meaningful and affordable. Exquisite floral design for any occasion!

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to look at my website. My name is Tamara Andersen and I am the owner of Sugar Tree Company as well as its principal designer. Sugar Tree started as a tiny grain of an idea when people would say "Do what you love," or, "If you love what you do, it doesn't feel like work." I graduated as a Graphic Artist from Grant MacEwan University in Edmonton, Alberta in 19

94 and worked in the industry until 2006, when I had my daughter. The whole time I was slogging my way through a 9 to 5 job, I kept thinking that there had to be something I could do (besides being a mom) that I could love. From the time I was a little girl, I was enchanted by flowers. Their smell, their brilliance and most importantly, the way they draw emotions from people. It's amazing what a single rose can do to brighten someones day! After having my daughter, Mira (that's her on the left with a wreath of wildflowers on her head), I decided that I wanted to stay home and enjoy raising my two children. Of course, this left me with a lot of free time on my hands. La Voila, the idea for Sugar Tree was born. I began by offering to do flowers for friends and family, followed by doing some custom orders around Christmas and Easter. I found that time just flew and that I felt happy after an eight hour work day... Maybe I was onto something! Fast forward and I am now the happy owner and designer of my own company. I graduated from Floral Design at ICS with "high honours" and threw myself into my first wedding design a week after graduation. My philosophy is simple: Every person deserves to speak the language of flowers. Whether it is the thrill of imagining your dream bouquet for your wedding or relaying heartfelt sympathy to a loved one in mourning, flowers lift spirits, fire imaginations and make us pause to appreciate the simplicity and purity that nature offers us. I like to think that I combine my natural artistic flair with the principals of design that I was trained in and throw in a dash of understanding (every person has different style!) and end up with a product that is not only superior in quality but also in imagination and flair. By working from my home, I am able to remove the extra expenditures that are usually placed on the consumer shoulders. I will work with every individual to ensure that I have a clear understanding of their vision, their dreams and their budget and meld all three together into something truly fantastic!

Trying to catch up on editing and adding to my albums. These are the photos that some brides have been kind enough to send me or pictures of the flowers before I send them off.

This was such a fun wedding to design for! Cristin, the lovely bride had some very fun ideas of what she wanted but also gave me some freedom to be creative. I wanted rust and blue, but not "Oilers". I think we pulled off a gorgeous flower recipe (plus they are a beautiful couple so...) 😘

Made for the Cabinet of Curiosities but I really loved it! A badger skull, two racks of antlers and obsidian spires replace traditional flowers. We decided to call this one Hades. I also threw in a bundle of “Love lies bleeding” amaranthus and eryngium (thistle). I’m gathering a collection of alternative mediums to use over the upcoming season so if you know anyone who would like something less conventional and a little more creative and wild, I’d love to chat!!!

Not flower related exactly but this little lady is the newest addition to our family. Life seemed kind of grey after we lost both my girls in a year. Charlotte came along last summer and now, this is Ebony (or Ebbie as Tim calls her). Little black missile of mischief.

A Fall creation for my living room. Foraged Mountain ash, some blown O’Haras and sweet stock from the buckets in the shop. I truly love creating something enjoyable from gathering bits in my environment.
