Justin Oakey’s award winning feature film Riverhead screens at the South Coast Arts Festival, Thursday August 10, 2017.
The Nickel Roadshow in collaboration with the South Coast Arts Community is delighted to screen Riverhead on August 10, 2917 at the South Coast Arts Festival in St. Jacques, NL where Justin has family roots. Directed and written by Justin Oakey; produced by Justin Oakey and Brad Gover, the movie runs for 1h 29 mins. Showtime 7:30 pm St. Jacques Community Centre.

Community patriarch, Patrick Whelan, is drawn into a violent blood feud when two brothers return home to their outport community. Determined to breathe new life into the bitter rivalry started by their father, Riverhead is gripping crime drama, born from the clashes between Catholics and Protestants in rural Newfoundland.

Justin’s first feature film received acting nominations for both Larry Barry and Evan Mercer in the recent Canadian Screen Awards. The cast is rounded out by Stephen Oates, Allison Moira Kelly, Stephen Lush, Des Walsh, Michelle Rex, and Andrew Kay.

On the same bill is Crocuses, a gentle story of independence and loss. As an elderly widow finishes packing up her home with her daughter, she reflects on her life, its final chapter, and the regrets she feels about her late husband. Crocuses was the winner of the (2015) RBC Michelle Jackson Award. Directed and written by Wanda Nolan, produced by Baie D’Espoir Latonia Hart (Hartery), the short film runs for 7 mins.

Our 2015 Festival saw Gerald Stoodley and Gord Drake perform together on our stage. That is one of the delightful things about the South Coast Arts Festival - you never know who will join another entertainer in performance. Come along on the second weekend of August for another year of incredible musicians, singers and songwriters.
