What does your sweetheart like? Sometimes they are explicit sometimes annoyingly vague about what they like.

If you aren’t sure about obvious preferences here are some of our favourite leading questions that help give a bit of direction…

What colours do they surround themselves with?
Do they mostly wear bright colours or soft ones?
Is the whole house done in purples?

Are they a frilly person? Do they like super sleek and modern or more traditional furniture? Woodsy or gardeny?

Do they have a million vases and would they enjoy putting a hand tied bouquet into one of their faves in the collection or would they rather have something arrive in a vase that they can just plunk down and enjoy?

Where is it going?- work, kitchen, table? Is it going to be seen from one side ( like an office cubby or a mantle) or all around ( front desk at work or a kitchen island)?

Are they really into farm-to-table food? Would they especially appreciate local goods and flowers? Do they love exotic flowers that remind them of trips to the south and sunny beaches?

One week til Valentine’s Day, folks!!

If you are planning to woo someone now is the time to solidify that plan- book a babysitter, reserve a table, prebook some flowers… nudge, nudge. You are more likely to get your first choice of all the things if you get your ducks in a row now. We will be taking orders online and on the phone and in person, so you have lots of options. ( I always recommend on the phone or in person so you can have the most flexibility, but it is up to you).
Make a card or choose one of our beautiful local art cards to express your sentiments. Sweeten them up with some fudge, set the mood with a candle, add in a bit of bling with jewelry, so many great ways to personalize the day with local goodies!

Roses. They are arriving en masse for Valentines Day and it is easy to get “over” them as a florist. So I am going to stop and smell the roses, look at the amazing range of colours, try to “see” them in all their glory and depth and fall in love with them again.

Maybe that is part of the magic of Valentines Day, taking another look at the people we see all the time and falling in love all over again with the things that make them special.

We are so excited when these beauties show up and are this great length and deep colour. They last and last, are so rich and lovely.

These new raven ZZ shoots might want to play shy but the bright green makes them stand out. I don’t expect much new growth in the short dark days, but these little dudes are showing up despite it all.

These are chill plants that won’t climb your walls or grab you as you walk by ( looking at you, pothos).

Throwback Thursday to my little dude in 2017!!! Not so little now (though still cute and a ham). Can you believe it is our 8th January??? Boggles the mind!

Thinking about how grateful I am on this cold winters day for the past 8 years. For my family, and their support, for doing dump runs and processing flowers, holding down the Fort at home, and knowing floral holidays are zany and mean long hours ( and for my Mothers Day kid often a bumped around birthday party). Wildwood takes energy but it also has given us family time, flexibility and air miles.

For my awesome staff who bring creativity, innovation, passion, and fun to Wildwood. I wouldn’t have come through lockdown without you and you have made the years before and since really joyous ones! For Ky and Leandra and Judy who have been with me since the first Christmas and who keep on trucking along. For the wonderful folks who have come and gone and all made a mark. For my crazy holiday crew that parachutes in for the insanity and makes it all flow!

For my makers and suppliers! The Shuswap is brimming with talented folks who create beautiful wares and grow and forage for gorgeous blooms and foliage. Stocking Wildwood with local beauty has been my goal since day one and you all make it happen.

For my community- online and in person. Without you none of this happens. We are so grateful for your support, your orders, for sharing a wee bit of your lives with us and entrusting us with your “floral hugs”. (Totally unrelated to flowers, or work at all, really. ) When I was little we had a grease pencil in the kitchen drawer and whenever my mom boiled eggs we would draw faces on them. Ostensibly this was to make sure we knew which ones were hard boiled, but really, it was more detailed than it needed to be for that. It was a time-constrained flurry of artistic focus- the grease pencil gliding across the hot shell in a luxuriously rich black trail as it melted on contact, our little fingers trying to not drop the precious but toasty canvas as we gave life to the fridge crew- moustaches, crazy eyebrows, wobbly mouths. They were always faces ( at least in my memory) and whenever I boil eggs to this day I dig out a crayon or a pencil crayon and wish for that old grease pencil while making a new fridge crew of my own. This bunch will be cracked a pealed and made into tasty snacks this week ( a little macabre, perhaps, but extra fun) and I will enjoy them before and after the reveal!
