It's a Fleetwood Mac flameout at the Record Shop at SIMS this weekend.
We have a new donation which include's several of the band's records, including Rumours and the double-album Tusk.
There's also the band's Mirage LP, Buckingham and Nicks, and Stevie's solo record, Bella Donna.
And there's more!
Queen's double live album, Queen Live Killers and the classic Dire Straits album Brothers in Arms.
Plus a whole lot of other great records, including ELO, Duran Duran, Pretenders, Def Leppard, Iron Butterfly and Leonard Cohen.
So come and check out the new box!
We're in the old portable classroom outside SIMS (Saltspring Island Multi Space) between 11am and 3pm every Saturday.
It's easy to find at 124 Rainbow Road. Simply come in past Mahon Hall and go up the hill to the left. We're in the parking lot.
We have thousands of vinyl records and CDs, plus cassette tapes and DVDs for sale.
Every dollar goes towards getting community radio on the airwaves.

The hits keep on coming for you vinyl record fans!
We have yet another box of fabulous LPs at SIMS this Saturday, between 11am and 3pm.
The main attraction is the very desirable, Ozzy Ozbourne's Blizzard of Ozz, in excellent condition.
Add in Chick Corea's The Mad Hatter, Expect No Mercy by Nazareth, Light of the Worlds by Kool and the Gang and Joan Jett's I Love Rock and Roll, and it's an eclectic offering this week.
And we also have Rough Trade, Fleetwood Mac, Abba, Baker Gurvitz Army, Doobie Bros. and many other great artists.
Like Murray McLauchlan or Sniff 'n' the Tears? Pat Benatar or Gary Numan? We have them.
So come to the portable at SIMS, up the hill behind Mahon Hall.
We have thousands of vinyl records and CDs in every genre plus cassette tapes and DVDs, plus speakers and other equipment.
Every dollar raised goes towards getting community radio on the air in the Gulf Islands.

Come out and see a live radio play with some of our members in the cast and crew!
In case you hadn't heard, Gulf Islands Community Radio is mounting a special, live radio play at ArtSpring on July 21 and 22.
Tickets are onsale for The Adventures of Tom Thumb, Private Detective, a hilarious spoof of noir gumshoe radio shows of the 1940s.
Written by Sid Filkow and directed by Damian Inwood, it features live sound effects, music by The Myrtle Sisters and The Regulars, and original radio commercials, written and arranged by Sue Newman.
The cast includes community theatre regulars, Wendy Beatty, Charlotte Mitchell, Charley Miller, Sue Newman and Mark O'Neill, plus veteran actor, Eric Mullins, and talented newcomer, Carlo Locatelli, with Sid Filkow in a delightful cameo.
Wendy Lau is stage-managing the show, which is a fundraiser for CHIR.fm.
The sound man is being played by David Crone.
Included in each night's show will be a door prize draw for a $100 gift certificate, generously donated by Country Grocer.
So get your tickets early, to avoid disappointment and please tell all your friends and your theatre buddies.

We have an amazing selection of LPs and CDs for sale, with new arrivals every week.
Every dollar raised goes towards getting CHIR.fm on the air.
We also have T-shirts, ball caps, mugs and other CHIR merch for sale.
During sale hours we will also be broadcasting live to our online stream, featuring songs from our latest CD donations.
It's easy to find us.
Come in off Rainbow Road and drive past Mahon Hall, left up the hill and we're in the portable at the end of the parking lot.

AUDITIONS!!!!
Actors needed for an original radio play by Sid Filkow, to be performed live in July
We are holding auditions for 13 characters to perform in The True Adventures of Tom Thumb, Private Detective (A 1940s play for Radio) written by Sid Filkow.
This non-Equity production will be performed at ArtSpring in July, at a date TBA, as part of a fundraiser for CHIR.fm, the community radio station based in Ganges.
All profits will go to CHIR.fm.
The play will be performed as an old-style radio show, complete with commercials, musical interludes and live sound effects.

Characters to be cast are:

Announcer
Tom Thumb -- a hard-boiled private detective (think Humphrey Bogart)
Rapunzel -- His worldly-wise secretary.
Big Boy Blue -- The police chief
Snow White -- The ingenue
Humpty Dumpty -- a gentlemanly citizen
Queen -- villainous mob boss
Huntsman -- A Douglas Fairbanks hero
Shep Wooly -- a wheezing rep for a cigarette company
Newsboy -- a newsboy
Mirror -- sarcastic aide to the Queen
Jill -- Jack's brother
Red Riding Hood -- a local w***h

*We are also looking for someone to perform live and computerized sound effects, as required by the script.

Although this is a radio play, as it is being performed live, actors will be expected to act out their parts with physical actions, as well as vocally.

Auditions will take place at 2pm on Sunday, Feb. 12 at the portable classroom at SIMS (the former SSI Middle School) and will be a cold read from the script.

There will be two performances of the play at ArtSpring. we will confirm the dates ASAP. the performances will be recorded for re-broadcast on CHIR.fm
Rehearsals will be scheduled, based on actors availability.

WE'VE MOVED AND ARE HAVING A BIG VINYL AND CD SALE!!!
We've completed our move into our new home, the portable classroom behind the former Salt Spring Island Middle School. (SIMS)
The new space is about 900 square feet and will house a new studio and much-needed storage for our extensive vinyl record and CD collection.
We will be holding regular sales at our SIMS studio, starting Saturday, Nov. 26 from 10am to 2 pm.
THERE'LL BE SPECIAL PRICING ON MANY ITEMS!!!
It's easy to get there (see map below). Simply drive in off Rainbow Road past Mahon Hall and up the hill behind the Elementary School. The portable is directly facing the parking lot.

WE'RE HALFWAY TO GETTING CHIR.FM ON THE AIR!!!!

Well done everyone!!! We've raised $25,000 and are halfway to getting CHIR.fm on the air!
Due to our successful summer fundraising efforts, we have just passed $25,000 in the capital fundraising needed to get CHIR.fm on the air next year.
Now we need to push on, to reach our target of $50,000 by Apr. 1, 2023.
Then we can start buying the equipment which has to be installed by Fall, 2023.
There are several ways you can help:

- Join Club 107.9 by sending an e-transfer for $107.90 to [email protected]. This will also entitle you to a guest spot on our on-hour Castaways music request show.
- Donate to the CHIR.fm GoFundMe campaign.
- Donate the amount of your choice to [email protected]. Any donation of $20 or over will include a basic CHIR.fm membership.
- Donate vinyl records and CDs to help out with our fundraising. (Contact president@gicrs,ca or call or text 250-221-1766.)

CHIR.fm LAUNCH IS THIS FRIDAY AT THE LEGION WITH VALDY PLAYING AT 9PM AND DJs SPINNING TUNES UNTIL LATE!!!!

Don't miss our exciting, "Cheer for CHIR" launch party this coming Friday night!!! (May 6)
Starting at 7pm, we'll be kicking off with DJ Tom Boivin and Valdy spinning some tasty tunes.
We'll be unveiling the CHIR.fm logo and a whole line of new merchandise as well as auctioning off some great gifts, many timed for Mother's Day.
Valdy will be playing an hour-long set, starting at about 9pm and our DJs will be playing music late into the night, winding up with Dano Hammer's hip-hop set.
The evening will be streamed live on CHIR.fm and Islandsradio.ca.
We'll have a live auction of items donated by our sponsors: Hastings House Hotel, Country Grocer, Windsor Plywood, Mouat Trading Co., Love My Kitchen, Salt Spring Inn and Sam Lobalbo.
We'll also have a brand new selection of vinyl records on sale plus some of our "vintage" Gulf Islands Community Radio swag.
Admission is free but seating is first come, first served, so get there early.
Special invited guests include our MLA Adam Olsen, CRD director Gary Holman and Islands Trust trustee Laura Patrick.
The evening is part of our fundraising campaign to raise money to get CHIR.fm on the air. We need to raise about $50,000 to get our main transmitter up and running by January, 2024, and another $45,000 for the repeater on Mt. Bruce.
We'll be selling memberships to CHIR.fm, Club 107.9 and accepting donations.

So mark your calendars! Gulf Islands Community Radio is hosting a vinyl record sale on April 2.
We have some exciting new stock – including Beatles, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bowie and King Crimson – most in great condition, so don’t miss out!
New records are arriving every week!!!
Our next sale is on Saturday, Apr. 2 from 10am to 2 pm at the Seniors Centre at 379 Lower Ganges Road (opposite Country Grocer).
We’ll also be at the Saturday Market from Apr. 16, broadcasting live.
As well as our vinyl records, we’ll be selling a great selection of CDs, priced at $5 each, or three for $12.
