Indigenous Peoples Weekend 2025 opening ceremonies were hosted in ArtSpring's meadow Friday June 20th and it was a community gathering to remember! Fifteen nations were represented and community members of all ages attended and participated.

It was all hands on deck for the 22' teepee raising. Elder Fred Roland gave an inspiring teaching at the teepee gathering. Elder Robert George and the Penelakut Dancers shared traditional dance. Elder Bruce Dumont provided teachings and intergenerational storytelling sessions, Elder Jo-Ina Young performed her Metis-inspired puppet show, The Boneyard Babes, and so much more. The Indigenous Art Exhibition was open all day in ArtSpring's lobby and remains on display to July 10.

The day was produced in partnership with Sherry Leigh Williams and Sweetgrass Arts & Music Society, ArtSpring's volunteer RoundTable committee, an Indigenous Priority Grant from Salt Spring Foundation, and sponsorship assistance from IPW2025.

What a day!
