My barrel race is cancelled for tonight. It would seem we're not meant to have ABRA jackpots. Weather rarely co-operates.
On a happier note, we are excited to be hosting the MacIntosh Family Reunion (my mother's family) here on the August 1st long weekend - Aug. 2-5th. We're super excited and working hard to make sure it will be a great time. The photo below shows the family's 13 children in 1963. All but one remain with us.

Our neighbour, an elderly German master carpenter, has several items in the timed Team Auction going on until Wednesday at Drayton Valley. There are two beautiful sleighs, a single and a two-horse. We think they deserve the attention of horse people. Unfortunately, I don't have photos. They are lot 2576 and 2577. Please have a look and share this post.

Apparently I don't know how to post anymore. My post from a couple of days ago is not here.
I'm scheduled for an ABRA race here tomorrow night, May 19.
It doesn't look good. Rain is forecasted.
I will cancel by 3:00 if necessary.
Directions: From Hwy 43 at Sangudo, go south 2 km on hwy 757 to Twp Rd 564A, right, one mile on gravel, road turns left but DON"T turn. Continue west along new pasture fence, down river hill to site. Coming from Hwy 16, it's 33 km to the corner of 564A. ABRA sign is tacked to the highway signs.

This is a regular jackpot as per pre Covid. Enter when you get here. We do a computer random draw.
Directions: From Hwy 43, turn south on Hwy 757 at Sangudo. 2 km to Twp Rd 564A, turn west onto gravel, 1 mile to our corner, then continue west on road through hay field down to riverside location. If coming from south off Hwy 16, take hwy 757 from Magnolia corner, 33 km to Twp 564A, then as above. I won't give our blue sign address as it has led visitors to the wrong side of the river.
Again, no food wagon available.
We will close entries for the draw at approximately 6:40. If you're on your way and worried about being late, text Iris 780-269-0055 with name, ABRA #, horse's name.

It's been a long while since I've posted anything. Barrel racing has been off, as you are all aware, and I've elected to wait until next year to host again.

The summer is beginning to look a lot like last year - too much rain!

My garden is keeping me busy. The saskatoons will be abundant. More sunshine needed.

We look forward to the Spink family coming to celebrate Colleen and Ray's 60th anniversary the weekend of July 24-26th. And Cousin Elsa Cardinal's family the following long weekend.

Take care everyone. Stay healthy.

Hopefully we'll see more photo ops like this one with Petra and Harley than scary high water.

My horse SE STREAKIN GHOST, aka Becky, will be on her way to Wisconsin with Lauren Stephens, so I am officially a retired barrel racer. I suspect I won't have a shortage of things to keep me busy. Our Cougar's Crossing barrel racing dates are as follows: May 14 & 28dh, June 11 and 25dh, July 9 & 23dh, August 8/9 weekend, and September 3rd. The latter one in each of May, June and July are double headers. The August weekend is two runs per day so far, but I am thinking about how that might become a weekend of family fun and less of competition. Your input is welcome.

My cousin Graeme, although suffering in the Australian fires, made a beautiful photo book of our weekend jackpot last August. Here are photos of the front cover (Kathleen), back cover (me) and one of the pages (Mesa, Carol, Malcolm and Darlene). What a huge undertaking, and the shipping must have been brutal as he sent three copies. I look forward to showing it to you all.

Petra takes Harley for walks and now ski trips. Harley couldn't be happier.

Thank you, Adams girls, for the beautiful framed photo your mom dropped off this morning. I heard that you honoured the Youth sponsor, Paddle Valley Plastics, as well. That is so appreciated.

Disappointing turnout for our charity jackpot. Thanks to those who came. Three dogs in the pet parade/show: Bogie, Bucky and Harley. All three won our hearts.
Sept 12 JP has been cancelled.
We hope for a better year - weather-wise - next year.
And a huge thank you to Kathleen Hull, Katzgraphic, for the barrel stickers.

Sure hope we'll get some pet entries. They don't have to do amazing tricks - just look cute. Your horse - dog - cat - chicken - goat - whatever...

Thanks, Kathleen.
