Just kidding about that last one. I cherish my evenings once the kiddos go to sleep. No matter how exhausted I am, I still find myself wanting to take that time for “me” at night. Whether it’s sports, a movie, trash TV, or catching up on scrolling - I’ve definitely become more of a night owl than ever before.

How about you? Morning Person or Night Owl? I used to think I was a morning person until I lived with someone for the first time and they spoke to me before coffee. Update - I am not one.

My fave costume that I’ve done as an adult is Jem from Jem and the Holograms. Fave movie is the original Halloween for classics & Exorcism of Emily Rose for newer ones. We neeeed a good new horror release. Tradition fave is decorating and watching as many horror movies as I can in October (like it’s different any other month). Fave candy to get Trick or Treating would be a toss up between Reese Peanut Butter Cups and Tootsie Rolls. I can’t eat either anymore because of a dairy allergy 😭

Our first Persist event…

Powerful. Inspiring. Brave. Beautiful. Connecting. It was so many things 💕

- your openness and vulnerability yesterday is something I will never forget, and am so grateful you chose this event to be your first time sharing in a public space. You are one of the most incredible women I have ever known, and you’re changing lives with your bravery. I’m so lucky to have you in my life. I cannot wait to see this journey grow for you, and for all the good you will be putting into the world.

After Sarah’s talk, some of the attendees stayed and enjoyed a beautiful sound bath from Michelle with . We will definitely make this a part of every Persist event moving forward.

Max attendance at these events will be 40 people in order to keep an intimate setting for our speakers, as many will be sharing for the first, or one of the first, times. Our first event saw 26 attendees, and we are so thankful for your support!

“And suddenly you know…

…it’s time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.”

I posted this quote in my stories yesterday, and it may be one of my most liked stories to date (that doesn’t involve jump scares). The idea of new beginnings and following your heart resonates for so many.

I have a lot of changes coming up in the next few months, and as scary as change is for someone with anxiety - I am really excited - for me, for my kids, for my business - and for my mental health. I can’t wait to share the fun things and events coming up for Ember, as well as some personal updates. I want to finish 2024 with my vision laser focused on the future I’m building for my little family. 2023 & 2024 taught me so much, and did not always teach me gently. I want 2025 to be for goal crushing, being the best version of me that I can, surrounding myself with people that feel like sunshine & home, and finding all the glimmers possible.

So many people right now are going through heavy things - change, loss, grief, mental health struggles - it’s been a lot. We are all at max capacity it seems lately. I do not believe everything happens for a reason. Sometimes things are completely unfair and should never happen, and it’s okay to feel that way and grieve. Toxic positivity helps no one. Let’s be kind to one another 💕

Here’s to new beginnings, continuing what makes us happy, grieving whatever we need to, and leaving behind the things that no longer serve our highest selves.

Wear the outfit. Take the photo. Live your damn life.

How many times have you put something on and thought - “this is too much”, “what will they think” (also - who the eff is “they”?!), “I can’t pull this off” … and on, and on, and on.

Wear what makes you happy. Know how amazing you look - even if no one tells you (but I hope they do). Life is too short to put yourself into a box of what you “should” wear.

Thank you forever to pages like ,and more, that remind me daily that you can wear what you want regardless of what “they” say.

‘Your body is the least interesting thing about you’ will forever stay with me from last year’s Heart’s Desire Gala. We are more than what society commonly tells us we should be, wear, and do. We are also more than what past toxic relationships have said we “can” wear.

There was a time I would NEVER have gone out in a shorter dress or thigh high boots. There was also a time in my past where I did and was shamed for it. Last night - I did it again - and I felt amazing. You are in the driver’s seat ladies - Wear. What. You. Want. ❤️

Some of the things that make me, me…

• I will climb the tree.
• I am going to dance on your doorbell camera and sing “it’s Britney b*tch”.
• I’ll eat the pickles you don’t want on your burger…but will never eat your veggies.
• A card or hand written note will forever mean more to me than any gift.
• I do not take for granted the people who embody if home was a person.
• Spontaneous adventures are always a yes, but I know that contradicts my natural planning side.
• I’ll forever be the friend that vanishes on side adventures on a night out and have met some of my favorite people on these quests.
• Seeing elderly couples holding hands makes me tear up every time.
• I’d pick hanging out with kiddos and babysitting over almost any chance to hang with adults. Kids are magic.
• I’m more of a homebody than anyone would ever guess.
• Airports make me SO happy. The tearful goodbyes and hellos - the best. Everyone deserves an airport kind of love.
• I will always be the person risking safety to try and pet and/or domesticate an animal I shouldn’t be.
• I want a goat more than any other animal…and love even the “creepy” animals like mice and snakes.
• Horror movies make more sense to me than rom-coms.
• I will always be trapped in the 90s.
• Music is both my therapist and my Time Machine.
• The Oilers are my chosen family.

If you love someone who battles with mental health challenges…

On World Mental Health Day, as someone who has been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and ADHD, I wanted to share a bit from my lense. Note that I am not a counselor or mental health professional, and everyone’s journey is different. These are just a few things I’ve noticed through my journey personally, both myself and my needs - and what I’ve heard / experienced from friends and family.

If you love someone who battles with mental health challenges…

Be patient. No one is more frustrated with the challenges and blocks we face than us.

Be kind. Don’t downplay our fears, sadness, and worries as silly or ridiculous. There’s a good chance we know - but talking it out of existence helps. Talking through is huge, but be gentle.

Reassurance is a love language. It’s not always easy for us to ask for reassurance, or admit it’s needed, but it does so much. Especially when offered freely.

Be a good listener. Closing off is more common than opening up for us, so if we start - active listening is huge.

Normalize counseling, medication, holistic healing and/or any healthy modalities that we need/choose to do.

Empathy. We don’t want to be a burden. We don’t want anyone taking on our struggles. We just want to feel understood, especially when we can’t always understand it ourself.

Be accepting when we need time to ourselves. It’s not about you, or us necessarily not wanting to see you or talk about our lives. Sometimes that time to reflect and recharge is a huge help to get us to a point that we can do that with you.

It’s okay to not always be okay - MH is a daily and life long battle. Your low days do not make you weak or define your identity. You are loved. Counseling and medication do not make you weak. You matter.

Cannot wait for another trip to Edmonton for the home opener and the start of another season of Oilers hockey. I always feel so much more content during hockey season; no matter what is happening in my life - I have a constant source of focus (even when it’s a roller coaster of emotion).

The real faces behind Ember Productions ❤️

My heart living outside my body x 3 and my why for every day. The ones that remind me to smile on the hardest days. The ones that tell me when I’m working too hard and need to take a night off. The ones that make me laugh daily, and remind me that “we get it from you, so you can’t get mad”.

Being a Mom is the best thing I have ever done, and the most important role I’ve ever had. We talk openly about everything…mistakes, celebrations, fears, joys, ambitions - I never want any subject to be off limits. Being a single mom is a role I never envisioned for myself, but it’s a role that has shaped all four of us in so many ways. We’ve grown together, laughed together, and leaned on each other in so many ways that will stay with us always.

My babies - may you never stop believing in magic, always know you can do anything you aspire to do, and that you have a Mom in your corner that will always be there for whatever you need.

“No act of kindness , no matter how small, is ever wasted.”

Thank you again to all of the businesses that donated products and services to our live and silent auctions for last week’s event, and to our bidders.

The live auction raised $2650, and the silent auction raised $4258.35 (after auction site fees). This means we will be donating $6908.35 - split between each of our three initiatives!

Neoma Wellness will receive $721.93 Cash and we will be paying $1580.85 to send a Little Wonders Mom to their upcoming Evoke Wellness Retreat.

STC Emergency Wellness Centre & The Little Wonders Family Program will each receive a $2302.78 cash donation.

Sponsors - the event financial report will be ready next week for those that would like a copy. We are just waiting on one final invoice.

While the event itself didn’t make a financial profit, the connection and takeaways - and each and every hug I saw given through the night - was worth every second of work put into making this event happen. Not every project we do as small business owners may be a financial success on paper when we look at numbers, but the impact it makes and the lessons / growth that come with it are life changing. There is always something to take forward to the next project , and the takeaways from this event overall - most notably the people that took the stage, and the messages I received post-event, will stay with me always.

🌸 Thank You 🌸

Hugest thank you to everyone involved in Thursday’s “An Evening with Jillian Harris” Event. Sponsors, swag bag donors, trade show vendors, volunteers, auction item donors, attendees and auction bidders - as well as the women in this photo - whose vulnerability and openness surely impacted everyone in attendance. It was a beautiful evening of connection, with so many take aways.

It’s truly such a gift to be an event planner and get to work on things that bring people together for inspiration, laughter, and connection. There’s no other job I can imagine doing - besides maybe Eminem’s assistant.

We are still waiting for a few auction payments to trickle in, but once we have the final number of donations - I’ll announce the three way split totals for our three initiatives. Hopefully mid-week!

Thanks again to everyone involved in making this event what it was.

If I could wish for women entrepreneurs to not be called one thing, it would be…

…lucky.

I am SO grateful for every bit of growth and success that I have achieved in my professional life. That being said, most small businesses/entrepreneurs do not just grow on their own - it takes a community of support, vendor relationships, and happy clients.

Those things do not come with being lucky. They come with working your ass off, sleepless nights, tears, dedication, loss, failures, planning, anxiety, imposter syndrome, time away from family, and so much more - but definitely not luck.

Little Wonders is a relatively new business at 2.5 years old, but my very first paid event planning job was in 2010. I’ve put a lot of years into classes, certifications, trial & error, success & failure into my career and into building Little Wonders. I’ll never stop trying to learn and grow and do better for the community and my clients.

We have to stop calling business women “lucky” , because there are so many layers to what you see.

Here’s to all the women crushing their dreams, growing, and kicking ass on their goals 💖

“There’s only one place I want to go, and it’s to all the places I’ve never been to.” This morning I went on a two hour solo adventure - I still don’t completely know where I was (serial killers have entered the chat) - but those are my favorite kind. I just googled “nice walking trails in Swift Current” and ended up having an incredible couple hours to myself….as well as two cats, a squirrel, a snake, a lovely couple in their 80’s AND I got to bump into @kylact and Waylon at the playground - which made my whole day. I only partially got lost, and only ‘almost’ fell into a creek (which @shawnmule29 pointed out that it’s THE creek, not A creek….sorry Swift 😅). I love just driving or walking and seeing where I end up, and this morning was SO needed. Where is your favorite random place you’ve ended up without meaning to?

Introducing the Opening Speaker for April 19’s event, An Evening with Sheldon Kennedy, @shalenfox Shalen is from the Sweetgrass First Nation and is a high school teacher. Shalen has been a teacher for over 10 years and has his master’s degree in education. Shalen shares his personal journey of overcoming addiction. Shalen loves to play sports, but his passion is coaching youth sports. Shalen wants others to find their passions and is willing to help anyone reach their full potential. Shalen vulnerably shares his story of inter-generational trauma and helps others find their own healing tools. Shalen knows how it is difficult for a “man” today and wants to help give a voice to those suffering in silence.
