2017
"Jake & the Kid" (June 21 - 25 & June 28 - July 2)
2017 was Canada's 150 celebration. To commemorate this year, Vickie chose a "Canadian Prairies" play by one of Canada's beloved authors, W.O. Mitchell. Mitchell wrote a series of "Jake & the Kid" stories that aired on the CBC radio as a series in the 1950s. The script that Vickie chose to produce combined three of his stories.
Jake, the hired man, takes care of the farm for Ma and the Kid while Dad is away during World War II. Old man Gatenby and his granddaughter, Molly, have the farm next door. Jake and old Gate are known for their tall tales and are always striving to out do each other. It's relatively harmless, and it entertains them. Enter Molly's boyfriend whom she met at university, he's come to stay with them for the summer while he works on a school project, "The collection of tall tales from Liars". This doesn't sit so well with Gate, he doesn't want to be called a liar, and it's cramping his style. He ends up over at Jake's to complain and pleads with Jake to come over and give the young man some of his tall tales. One thing leads to another and Jake gets himself into a pickle by admitting that he's made it rain before, using a rain machine! Well, the Kid starts bragging to other kids in town that Jake can "make 'er rain". People start asking Jake to put together his rain machine to help with the current drought. The minister in church even gets involved, announcing to the congregation that Jake is going to make it rain. Finally, Jake has no choice but to make his rain machine.
Will Peters (Jake), and Len Bachiu (Old Gate), were the perfect duo for telling tall tales. Vickie's goal was to get them to sound like our Dad and his friends, Art Letkeman & Henry Banman, who used to sit out on the yard and regale each other (and anyone else who stopped by their table) with their tall tales of hunting, fishing and farming. Vickie used those fond memories as a perfect resource for this play. Will's costume wa
Clearing Snow
We think we have enough snow now!.....please melt soon.
Love you Mom
Today we remember our Mom's passing 5 years ago! There are not too many days that go by without us thinking of her and missing her.
The Last Resort Band had the pleasure of singing at a fundraiser for the "Te Deum Singers" in Edmonton this past weekend. Our cousin Paul, who joins us every October for the "Prairie Trio", is a memeber of the "Te Deum Singers" who will be singing at Carnegie Hall this April!!
Our Band, closes every performance with a rendition of "The Wabash Cannonball", our parents favorite, and our mom's pride & joy when Paul sings down the bass line at the end of the song.
Have a listen....we love you mom, this one's for you!

This is what she left for us
1 year ago this evening, we said goodbye to our dear Mom. We miss her so much. She was our biggest champion. She taught us so many things but above all else, she taught us to Love.
Vickie had the pleasure of taking mom on a few winter trips over the years and has put together a memory video. Love you Mom.
