This was a day for which to be grateful!!! My teacher, Garth Beckett, came to Saskatoon with his daughter, Alison. We were so thrilled to have lunch together at Hearth in the Remai Modern Art Gallery. Unfortunately, Garry was very sick but is doing better now. We had the most wonderful meal and visit. Then Allison Moores sent us fabulous chocolate chip cookies! All of these meetings began with Garth’s lessons with Lyell Gustin and continued with my lessons with both of them and then Allison’s lessons with Garry and me. Life is grand! ❤️

Fierbois! at Gustin House on Sunday, October 5

Wonderful performers, varied and colourful music, creative program design celebrating nature, vistas of our country, and musical art across the ages . . . a joyful autumn recital to open our new season. It was a delight to have presented oboist Caitlin Broms-Jacobs and pianist Madeline Hildebrand––our warm appreciation to Fierbois!

Gustin House is delighted to present Fierbois!–pianist Madeline Hildebrand and oboist Catilin Broms-Jacobs–in a program celebrating our country, nature, and the splendor of musical art across the ages.

On October 5, at 3:00 p.m.at Gustin House, the duo, whose playing has been described as creative and dynamic, joyful and electrifying, performs Canadiana Suite by Oscar Peterson, Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams, Sonata K. 454 by Mozart and a work by David Braid. Ms. Hildebrand will also perform Brahms' Intermezzo Op. 76, no. 6. Reservations required due to limited space: contact [email protected].

This event is presented with the support of The Canada Council for the Arts, Organization of Saskatchewan Arts Councils, and Prairie Debut.

This is a really meaningful recording for Duo Concertante. The Franck and Schumann have lived alongside us and given us a deeper understanding of ourselves for decades as artists and life partners, and we think they pair beautifully with the more recently discovered and thrilling romantic masterpiece by Amanda Maier.

We want to thank the many people involved in making it possible, starting first with Records - what a joy it has been to work with this top-notch team. Thank you to the folks at church for the beautiful venue in Edinburgh. ArlanVriens, a former student and all-around brilliant guy, wrote the excellent liner notes.
