Gustin House

Gustin House Music and the arts! Annual concert series featuring international and local artists. Join us!

The activity of Gustin House is inspired by the brilliant piano teacher Dr. Lyell Gustin (1895-1988), who moved from Quebec to Saskatchewan at age 17, already an award winning pianist. In his Saskatoon studio, he mentored and inspired hundreds of young musicians during his 70-year career. Today, a non-profit charity based in his restored home/studio continues his ideals: Gustin/Trounce Heritage Co

mmittee Inc. presents musical and cultural events, gives piano scholarships, and also maintains Gustin House, a Provincial Heritage Property.

Happy Canada Day from Gustin House.

Glorious Wood! Cello, Bass, and the Woodturner’s Craft

Sunday, June 8, at 3:00 p.m.
Gustin House, 512 - 10th St. East

The versatile and timeless beauty of wood has intrigued, inspired, and indeed intoxicated luthiers, artists, craftspersons, creators all, across centuries and cultures. We welcome you to Gustin House for an afternoon celebrating the glory of wood and "the work of our hands" (Ps. 90:17).

Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra members Joel MacDonald, Principal Cellist, and Stephen Kreuger, Bassist, are delighted to share the aural richness of their low-range string instruments in favourite works the two friends have selected. They will perform rarely-heard music, duettos written specifically for cello and double bass by virtuoso bassist Domenico Dragonetti (1763-1846) and by the composer most famed for his operas, Gioachino Rossini(1792-1868).

Michael Hosaluk, acclaimed internationally and across Canada as a master woodturner, will speak about his craft. He will display select pieces from the wonderfully varied range of unique works that have brought him wide acclaim, from showings locally and nationally, and in distinguished collections held in countries around the world.

This event marks Lyell Gustin’s 130th birth anniversary (b. May 31, 1895). Join us for a reception.
