Meet our wonderful M.C Debbie!

After almost 56 years living on the West coast our very own Debbie Lori Kaye has returned to her home in Sault Ste Marie.

You will remember her from her days on stage as a recording artist and her performances on television including the Tommy Hunter Show on CBC. She has spent the last two decades in television production in the USA and is seeking her 'quieter life' now amongst her family and friends.

Stories Steeped in Stone is proud to kick off our fall chapter with the amazing talent of M.D. Dunn! He will be bringing Rootless: Settler Songs the Heritage Discovery Theatre stage located at The Ermatinger National Historic Site, this October 13th at 7 pm.

The songs in Rootless: Settler Songs address the degree to which heritage and long history affect the individual's perception of a place. Like many people from settler communities, I was taught that the land was a resource to be exploited, and that North American history began with the arrival of my family from Europe. This attitude has created a culture and economy that has been harmful to Indigenous nations and in disharmony with the environment. These songs explore the disconnection of settler culture and the ongoing process of learning to be in and of a place.

For those joining us in person, your ticket of $25 will provide 2 wine or beer or other beverage & heritage appetizers that are themed to the event.

Seating is limited so get your ticket early.

In-person tickets available by calling 705-759-5443

“ … I drove down Bay St. with a completely different view in my head. And strangely enough, I could hear the roaring of the rapids from inside my Equinox, on a dirt road and also going under water in my car as I drove over towards Ermatinger House! Thank you for transporting me back in time…" This note from a viewer of our second chapter in the Stories Steeped in Stone journey says it all. See it for the first time or revisit this fascinating talk on youtube.

It was an evening of consummate entertainment - wonderful performances interwoven with a dose of nostalgia and a touch of scheming and dreaming. This chapter of the journey was the consummate example of finding creative resources in the stories of our past and it was grand. Thank you Timothy Murphy for turning over the stones of local history and uncovering this gem of an era in entertainment we knew nothing about and making it live again. In instalment 9 of the Stories Steeped in Stone series, Marnie Stone, Jarrett Mills, Ali Čolak, Luca McCauley and Timothy Murphy.
