Today we'd like to highlight our Queen of a 'million little things', owner of Clayton Hospitality, Judy Sparkes-Giannou.
Judy is a mother, a wife, a mentor, and a strong business woman!
She has been taking care of the 'million little things' for years. She is an advocate for women in business and is a proud, founding member of the first Women’s President Organization in NL. In her ‘spare’ time, Judy finds time to mentor not only women inside her company but also many young and aspiring women to help empower them to achieve their goals. Judy brings her boundless energy and transformative thinking and expertise to many groups and organizations.
Judy became involved in the tourism industry of Newfoundland & Labrador over 25 years ago. Since then, her name has become synonymous with tourism provincially, regionally, and nationally. She is past Chair of the Choice Canada Franchisee Board, Vice Chair of the NL Employers Council, and Vice Chair of St George's Heritage Committee.

Christmas is the spirit of giving!
Here at the Comfort Inn Gander all year long we have jeans day on Fridays. Each week our team brings in $2 and at the end of the year we donate it. We have done many local charitable donations throughout the year and I'm so proud of my staff for contributing! Today the staff of the Comfort Inn Gander donated $400 to the The Salvation Army Gander Happy Tree. Our elf Rob dropped of the cheque and I couldn't be prouder.
We're a family here and my heart is full seeing my staff helping other families.

The Devil is in the Details - Advice From a Hotel Owner
"The devil is in the details", "read the fine print". We've heard these simple sayings so often, yet they are particularly true right now, as so many companies compete for your travel dollars.
Book Directly With The Hotel
You don't have to look far to find someone who has a large travel credit for a cruise, an all inclusive, an airline, or a hotel for that matter. As the world opens up and you start to travel, please know that when booking your accommodations the very best plan is to call directly and speak to the hotel yourself when you book. This way you'll be assured of receiving the most accurate details on refund/cancellation policies. And you'll be speaking to a person that is specifically aware of changes in local conditions/restrictions.
Getting a refund from an OTA can be tough
Online travel agencies (OTAs), such as Expedia, Bookingcom, appear to offer the best hotel rates, but often these rates are "non-refundable". Once you have made payment, the contract for services is not with the end supplier, Comfort Hotel for example, but you are at the mercy of the OTA's policies. This can cause frustration for us, as we want to give you the best service possible. However, we can not intervene to even change the date of your booking or the room type when the booking is made with an OTA. Companies like Expedia and Bookingcom are third party suppliers and room charges show up as Expedia or Bookingcom, so any changes to your booking must go through the OTA, not the hotel you've booked with.
How do I get the best hotel rate and experience?
Your best bet as you start to travel is to call the hotel directly to make your reservations. Most businesses are required to match online travel agency rates, plus your ability to make a change to your booking will be exponentially easier if you call directly.
