Youth Folk! Thanks to the Year of the Arts, the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Arts Society is very excited to offer a special opportunity for selected young folk musicians called "YRecord."

See below for more. Applications are now open (click on the link below or look in our bio):

https://forms.gle/LaNyMFD9LSgaUe8ZA

YRecord stands for Youth Record, and is open to participants aged 19 and under. Artists who are selected will have the opportunity to work in studio with the legendary Sandy Morris, where they will be able to record one or two demo songs that could then be used to help start their careers in music (applying for grants, festivals, etc.). Through this experience, participants will be working with one of the music industry's finest, while learning the ins and outs of recording a song and exploring the many reasons WHY we record.

Artists! Here's a really neat opportunity!

The Grand Falls Windsor Theatre Project Announces Central Harvest: Call for Participants.

Central Harvest will run from October 1st-7th, 2024, in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. This one-week, paid residency for both emerging and professional artists holds space for 7-10 artists or artist duos from all corners of the island, including Labrador.

Please e-mail a 1-2 page PDF or 2-minute video submission to [email protected](Bernardine Stapleton) and [email protected] (Nicole Smith) outlining who you are as an artist, how your relationship to your environment influences your artistic practice, and why you believe sustainability in the arts must be a priority.

If you have any questions, accessibility requirements, or need further clarification before applying, please reach out to Nicole Smith at [email protected]

Please also include: where you’re based, a small budget of required materials for your week of creation, and a prompt to inspire the group. Your prompt can be as simple as a word - or it can be as elaborate as a suggested to-do. It can be a question, an action, a mantra, a list, etc. Anything that might motivate the creators we’ll be sharing space with to imagine and make.

✨We were so fortunate for Come From Away's Petrina Bromley and Astrid Van Wieren to take time away from their busy schedules to host a workshop in Gander for our "YMentor" program. These young folks got to learn how to tell a story through folk song and how to combat stage fright 🎤. What a valuable lesson to learn from these Broadway stars!✨
