P’QUALS PROMENADE SCULPTURES COMPETITION:

In its inaugural year, White Rock Events Society’s P’Quals
Promenade Sculptures Competition will present a year-long juried
outdoor exhibition of 10 sculptures by B.C. artists – on display at the waterfront adjacent to the White Rock Museum and Archives (14970 Marine Dr.) – from Sept. 14, 2023, to Aug. 24, 2024.
Sculptures – in a broad range of materials, including stone, bronze
and steel – can include either abstract or representational work.
Sanctioned by the City of White Rock, the event encourages the
general public to vote for their favourite work, with the winning artist receiving not only the People’s Choice Award, but also $15,000 in cash. Special recognition prizes, contributed by event sponsors, will also be awarded to artists.

08/08/2022

With heavy hearts, the White Rock Events Society has regretfully decided to cancel our Pilot Project, the White Rock Promenade Sculptures Competition that was to commence September 2022 and end August 2023.
We had the passion. We worked 16 months organizing this exciting new artistic event, connected with so many talented artists and all of us were looking forward to installing their creations along the promenade, east side of the pier to the White Rock (P’Quals).
Without enough support from businesses and community and the city, it became extremely difficult to keep moving forward.
The Castlegar model, we followed, has the whole local community and businesses behind the project, which has allowed it to keep going.
Also, without a successful Pilot Project year, there will not be a next year.
A special thank you to councillors Erika Johanson and Anthony Manning for their continued support.
Also, Werner and Helga Hoing, Sandee Butterly, Homelife Benchmark Realty and Cressy (Ocean Park) Development LLP, who shared our vision of a new artistic and premier event in White Rock. Thank you, Carl Funk, for stepping in to assist us with the engineering aspect, thank you Ernie Klassen and Maria Nicole.
Last but certainly not least, our new friends and fantastic artists, who submitted their beautiful works of art. They are very special and we wish them all good things in their artistic futures.
Monies paid to the White Rock Events Society from sponsors will be refunded. Thank you so much for believing in us.

Deanna Pedersen and Cindy Poppy, Volunteers Extraordinaire!

Call for SPONSORS!

White Rock’s newest event, the White Rock Promenade Sculptures Competition will showcase artists and their sculptures September 2022 through August 2023. It’s inclusive, exciting and accessible. Open to all. This is a 12-month OUTDOOR event, featuring 10 sculptures along the grass, east of the pier to the White Rock/P’Quals. Your sponsorship would cover a full year in a
high-volume area.

No matter what is happening in the world, or what the weather is like, visitors still come to White Rock. Our sponsors and volunteers are the reason our community is able to continue the tradition of a free, fun filled event and make it the premiere event in White Rock.
