Hey everyone!

As we all know, Jewish weddings are full of traditions and customs that are unique to our culture. I was recently asked about the steps of a Jewish wedding and realized that not everyone is familiar with the process. So, I thought it would be interesting to share some information and perhaps answer some questions.

Of course, there is no one way to do a Jewish wedding, and different communities and families have their own customs and traditions. Let's celebrate the diversity of the Jewish people and share our knowledge!

Kabbalat Panim (Reception) 👫🎉🍷
The groom stands in a designated area to receive guests before the ceremony.
In Sephardic and Mizrahi traditions, the bride may also participate in this pre-wedding reception.

Bedeken (Veiling) 👰👑
The bride is led by her parents to the groom, who then veils her with the traditional wedding veil.
In some Ashkenazi and Sephardic communities, the groom may also recite a special blessing at this time.

Chuppah (Wedding Canopy) 🎉🎊🎁🏰
The wedding ceremony takes place under the chuppah, a canopy symbolizing the new home the couple will build together.

In some Mizrahi traditions, the chuppah may be made from fabric held up by four poles carried by male relatives of the couple.

Kiddushin (Betrothal) 📜💍
The rabbi recites the betrothal blessings and the groom places the wedding ring on the bride's finger, signifying their commitment to each other.
In Sephardic and Mizrahi traditions, the groom may present the bride with a valuable item, such as a piece of jewelry, at this time.

Sheva Brachot (Seven Blessings) 🎉🎊🎁🏰
The rabbi recites seven blessings over a cup of wine, which the couple sips from between each blessing.
In some Ashkenazi traditions, the bride and groom may also be blessed by their parents and grandparents at this time.

Breaking the Glass 🍷🕊️
The groom smashes a glass with his foot, symbolizing the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem and reminding the couple of the fragility of relationships.
In some Sephardic and Mizrahi traditions, the couple may be showered with rice or candy after the glass is broken.

Yichud (Seclusion) 💑🏰
The couple spends a few moments alone together in a private room, allowing them to reflect on their new status as a married couple.
In some Sephardic and Mizrahi traditions, the couple may be showered with rose petals as they exit the yichud room.

Seudat Mitzvah (Wedding Feast) 🎉🎊🎁🏰🍷

The wedding feast follows the ceremony, with music and dancing to celebrate the couple's union.
In some Ashkenazi and Mizrahi traditions, the groom may dance with his bride on his shoulders during the celebration.
