Are you celebrating Earth Day today? 🌳
I started my company to focus on sustainable events because of the huge amount of waste and garbage created at events. This worsened during the pandemic when everything needing an extra layer of protection and was individually wrapped or packaged in plastic.
Over the past few years, the industry has improved. Many are starting to recognize and acknowledge that we as an industry, need to do better and fulfill our part for the environment. Not all clients are on board, though, and greenwashing is still rampant, even among vendors and suppliers. So what can we do? 🤷♀️
✨We can focus on ONE. THING. AT. A. TIME.
It’s an uphill battle to convince others that this is important. So I ask you to choose one thing to focus on this year and make that one thing count for every single event you plan.
For us at WLA Events, we focused on serviceware that was either compostable or required nothing at all! We chose to work with vendors who aligned with our values, serving fruit juice out of its own shell, cookie cups that did not require holders, edible helium balloons served on Pocky sticks; And when we couldn’t do that, we sourced compostable cups for hot drinks, sugarcane and bamboo bowls, compostable treat bags - the list goes on!
When we serve thousands of people per event, every little bit adds up.
