The Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Public Library are thrilled to announce the return of Symphony Storytime, an interactive program that brings together live storytelling and musical performances. Now expanded for the 2024/25 season, the program will visit eight libraries across the city, including St. Jamestown, Riverdale, and North York Central branches, as well as offering classroom visits to K-4 students.

Each 45-minute session pairs a TSO musician with library staff to read and perform a selection of books with live musical accompaniment. Children will enjoy captivating stories, learn about different instruments, participate in interactive musical demonstrations, and have the opportunity to engage with TSO musicians through Q&A sessions.

Building on last year’s successful pilot, Symphony Storytime has expanded across the city with two exciting new features: classroom visits and sensory-friendly Relaxed Storytime sessions. This season, two Relaxed Storytime sessions will offer a sensory-friendly environment designed for neurodiverse children, including those on the autism spectrum, to ensure a welcoming and comfortable experience for all. Additionally, the new classroom visits will bring interactive and enriching musical experiences directly to young learners across Toronto.

Yo-Yo Ma has received the Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal, one of the highest honours in music internationally. Yo-Yo Ma is only the 3rd cellist in history to receive the medal. Don't miss Yo-Yo Ma, Reflections in Words and Music at Roy Thomson Hall on June 6 & 7, 2025. Tickets: https://roythomsonhall.mhrth.com/tickets/an-afternoon-with-yo-yo-ma

Star cellist Yo-Yo Ma has received the Royal Philharmonic Society Gold Medal, one of the highest international honours in music.

On Saturday 2 November, RPS Chair Angela Dixon presented the internationally-acclaimed cellist with this honour ahead of his recital with pianist and long-time collaborator Kathryn Stott. The RPS Gold Medal is awarded for the most outstanding musicianship to the world's finest musicians. Previous winners include Brahms, Elgar, Sibelius, Bernstein, and John Williams.

Yo-Yo Ma is only the third cellist in history to receive the medal, following Pablo Casals and Mstislav Rostropovich.

"Yo-Yo, thank you for the extraordinary musical gifts you have given us all," said Dixon. "Few artists have done as much in our lifetime to rouse interest in classical music on a global scale, and to illuminate music’s purpose, power and potential in our lives."
