March: Duplessis Orphans X composer Alyssa Ryvers August 12, 2024
Join the Duplessis Orphans and composer Alyssa Ryvers, with percussionist Stuart Jackson on snare and pennywhistle, for an immersive documentary music theatre experience, as we march to mark the day 70 years ago that Premier Duplessis signed Decree 816, transforming the Mont Providence orphanage into a psychiatric hospital and the 370 resident children into patients. 5,000 children would eventually be falsely diagnosed by doctors as mentally deficient, and interned as patients in psychiatric institutions across Quebec.
This is the second in a series of performative events as part of the second iteration of O douce Providence, by Alyssa Ryvers with Hervé Bertrand and other Duplessis Orphans. It takes place from March 18, 2024 to March 18, 2025—to coincide with the Duplessis Orphans' Commemorative Day.
O douce Providence is co-produced by Arraymusic and represented by Latitude 45 Arts.

A non-idiomatic, free-improving ensemble, CCMC is united by a desire to play music that is fluid, spontaneous, and self-regulating. The original members founded the artist-run Music Gallery in 1976, where they performed twice weekly until 1980, and the band, with shifting membership, has been a cornerstone of Toronto’s left-field-jazz and free-improvisation music scenes ever since. CCMC has travelled and toured widely, performing at venues and festivals in Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan, and has recorded 11 albums.
