Having over a decade of performance experience, initially trained as classical and jazz musicians, Aaron Diaz and Yoshinori Aoyama began their debut in the local Toronto music scene in a hip-hop/R&B band called Illharmonic. As their roots in the local music industry spread, the two decided to branch out and venture into the art of DJing. The duo spin in unison while highlighting their unique style

s and techniques. Their inspirations such as J Dilla, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Skratch Bastid, and Kaytranada has influenced their passion and knowledge for music which is evidently shown in their sets and live performances.

Ever since knowing Yoshi, he’s always been the type to educate us anytime Japanese culture could be mentioned. His love for his country is super admirable and it’s so cool to see someone more in tune with their culture than say Jay and myself 😅⁣

It’s been a crazy few weeks. From announcing our new single Tasogare, to playing the legendary , to playing our very first out of town SOLD OUT that WE HEADLINED and we’re still just getting warmed up ☀️☀️☀️⁣⁣⁣

As we got busier and busier though, certain things started slipping. Our campaign rolling out our next single slowed down, we started getting behind on our shooting schedule, delays on writing new records, etc. 😭😭😭⁣⁣⁣

Still shows us that we have a lot to LEARN about how to balance this new ARTIST life that we chose for ourselves 📚📚📚⁣⁣⁣

Sometimes the plans we make in life don’t get executed 100% the way we had planned but what’s more important is our ability to be malleable, flexible and be able to roll with the punches 🥊🥊🥊⁣⁣⁣

Priorities. ⁣

Lately, we’ve been having a bit of difficulty juggling our responsibilities as working musicians/producers for other artists, corporate/private clients and anyone else that isn’t us 😭⁣
⁣
When we get in a bind, we typically gravitate to what we know. We’ll pick up another backing gig, or a new beat or new record or we’ll pick up a gig to provide entertainment in local establishments 💰💰💰 ⁣
⁣
This is our equivalent of “picking up a few shifts” or “getting a second job” or side hustle 💸💸💸⁣
⁣
Realistically, it hurts when we have to take the foot off the artist gas pedal because ultimately we know that THIS is what we want to do. To really be the artists that we know we should be 🥹⁣
⁣
We hope y’all really love this record. It’s super special to us and so many amazingly talented people put in a lot of work to get this done 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽⁣

Leaving our past selves behind us. ⁣
⁣
These days our biggest challenge is fully stepping into our “artist” shoes 👟 ⁣
⁣
As creative entrepreneurs, we constantly have to balance sustaining life (affording rent, car, gas, insurance, food, etc.) and building our business ⚖️⚖️⚖️⁣
⁣
In the past, we would prioritize backing/production/background music gigs over writing sessions out of fear that we wouldn’t cover our costs for the month 📉📉📉⁣
⁣
And after doing the whole support system thing as a backing band/producer/composer for such a long time, we are now afforded the luxury of time ⏰⁣
⁣
Time to write original songs. Time to focus on ourselves as artists and not as working musicians. Time to focus on chanelling our inner storyteller. Time to build the life we’ve been dreaming about for so long now 🥹🥹🥹⁣
⁣
If there’s one thing that we want everyone to take away from what we do….it’s that you can have everything you’ve ever wanted in life as long as you work hard, move with integrity and be firm with executing your vision ✌🏽⁣

We’ve been going hard at it for a while now. As we speak, I’m typing this after getting home from a show we played in Ottawa (shoutouts to ) last night after playing a show the night before at Sheridan College 🚙🚙🚙⁣

But all of it is worth it in the end. ⁣
⁣
In the era of prioritizing mental health with concepts like work/life balance, avoiding burnout and anything else that focuses on revitalizations and recharging, we sometimes forget that real WORK still needs to happen. 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽⁣
⁣
Not advocating for constant burnouts, and any other dangerous lifestyles by any means…….BUT you still need to be able to push yourself. Harder than you’ve ever pushed yourself in your life. You need to push past your boundaries and constantly question how much you can handle….because you can. 💹💹💹⁣
⁣
We’re attempting to be successful at something only a small percentage of people on the planet have been able to do. We’ve had to jump hurdle after hurdle after hurdle and that s**t won’t stop anytime soon. With that being said, we need to push harder and harder and not be complacent and comfortable. ⁣

Lean into the pain and love the process. ⁣
⁣
Keep going. Keep pushing. Keep improving. ⁣
⁣
