"AFTER A RAINFALL" by Maryam Ebrahimi: An Illusion of Flow in Every Stroke.
Artist Description:
With over two decades in the art world, Maryam Ebrahimi has mastered the art of capturing fluidity on a static canvas. Her distinct style, marked by a limited color palette, heavy layers, and flawless brushwork, reveals profound depth and charisma. Each piece embodies a yin-yang philosophy: the textured busyness of the yin contrasts with the serene emptiness of the yang. Hidden treasures like music sheets and mechanical drawings weave within layers, testament to Ebrahimi's rich global experiences. Renowned for her abstracts and landscapes, Ebrahimi's works have graced galleries both domestically and internationally.

Two stunning artworks crafted by our talented resident artist, Libby Sims, have found new homes with collectors from Canada and the USA.
A Crack in the Road is on its way to New York was purchased by a family who resonated with the work, reminding them of Picasso’s obsession of birds and a common theme seen in Libby’s own practice. Second portrait piece, Lola, was purchased by a local collector in Wasaga Beach.

"If we don’t amend history by making new images and new representations, we are always going to be excluding ourselves."
—Titus Kaphar
Happy birthday to Titus Kaphar, born on this day, August 17, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Kaphar’s art deconstructs existing representations and styles, seeking to dislodge history from its status as “the past” in order to understand its continued impact on the present. For "Social Works," a group exhibition curated by Antwaun Sargent at Gagosian, 555 West 24th Street, New York, Kaphar presents his painting "A bitter trade" (2020), which he whitewashed for a live NXTHVN event. In 2015, Kaphar cofounded NXTHVN, a nonprofit arts hub in Dixwell, New Haven, Connecticut, that provides fellowships, residencies, and professional development opportunities to artists, curators, and students. Follow the link in our bio to learn more about the organization or the show.

“At War Within” was a poetic installation that was thought-provoking drawing on the personal and universal dialogue of womanhood.
It is such a pleasure to look back at Artas history of exciting openings and art happenings. We look forward to a time when we can all gather at the gallery again and celebrate art and culture.
Today we are having a Q&A with Toronto-based photographer J. Chapnik. She is constantly watching, analyzing, and absorbing what is happening around her, using her surroundings to tell stories in art. To get inspired, she enjoys travelling and finding unique subjects and moments to photograph.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a photographer?
I’ve been fascinated by photography since I was a young child. I remember being in awe while creating images with photography paper, a leaf and the sun when I was a camper as young as 4 years old. At university, I took photography lessons while studying Studio Arts and Art History. In 2014, I bought a new camera (Nikon D800) and joined a creative photography group. I still get together with people I met in the class to discuss photography, share images, and create in the studio. (These days it’s via Zoom J). It’s like a book club, but for photography. I find that being in a group with other creative people with similar interests helps to inspire me and builds knowledge and skills.

Today we are having a Q&A with Toronto-based photographer Morgan Jones. He has been working with mixed media for the better part of two decades. Self-described as an artist driven by the casual observation of the people and life around him.
Why did you choose to pursue a career as a photographer?
It just sort of happened ... I had lots of creative ideas that I lacked the necessary technical ability with paint or other mediums to execute on. So when I discovered photography it enabled me to creatively tell my story and express myself.
