The Royal Cinema - Toronto

The Royal Cinema - Toronto The Royal is the perfect venue for your next event, screening, or mixing session! The 400-seat theatre was known as the Pylon when it first opened in 1939.

Originally built in 1939, The Royal is a historic Art Deco movie house located in the heart of Little Italy. Over time, it’s become one of Toronto’s most cherished landmarks. With the threat of closure looming in 2007, Theatre D Digital moved in during the fall, seeing an opportunity to bring their unique business model to a second facility (the first being The Regent Theatre). The Royal continues

to operate in the evenings as an indie/art house cinema. With extensive upgrades and renovations, it is now also a digitally-equipped screening and live event venue, adhering to the highest standards for picture and sound presentation. It is suited for live concerts, screenings, film festivals, corporate events, multimedia exhibition, and more. During the daytime, Theatre D operates out of the Royal as a film and television post-production studio. The main theatre becomes a Dolby-approved 5.1 mix room and four picture editing suites are located upstairs. Esteemed Canadian directors such as Atom Egoyan (Chloe, Adoration), Deepa Mehta (Heaven on Earth), Bruce McDonald (PontyPool, The Tracey Fragments), Kari Skogland (Stone Angel) have mixed and/or edited their projects here.

Joe Dombrowski, presented by Comedy Records, is having a full weekend residency at the Royal Theatre from November 14th to 16th.

Native Metro Detroiter, Joe Dombrowski took the world by storm in 2017 with a viral April Fools’ Day spelling test prank that landed him multiple appearances on the Ellen DeGeneres show. Don't get it twisted though! It takes at least 20 years to be an overnight sensation! Joe has been doing stand-up comedy since he was eight years old in his third-grade talent show. He's never stopped! Since Joe's rise to fame, he has been traveling the globe with his stand-up comedy which often highlights his outrageous family dynamics and of course his time as a former elementary school teacher.

Joe has been featured as a headlining act at the Just For Laughs comedy festival in Montreal and the New York comedy festival and will also be headlining two shows in the 2024 Netflix Is a Joke Fest at The Hollywood Improv. Joe is also incredibly humbled to be hosting a monthly show at the world-famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles, CA beginning fall 2024. When he’s not getting creative on stages and screens, Joe spends his time in Seattle, Washington producing his podcast “Social Studies” where he recaps outlandish stories from fans all over the country.

Comedian Joe Avati is bringing the laughter to the Royal Theatre October 25th, 2024 at 7pm!

In Joe Avati’s hilarious new show he asks you to leave your political correctness at the door. Internationally renowned for his inimitable style Avati, who is Australian born with an Italian heritage, is a master of treading the very fine line saying what everyone is thinking but no one dares to say whilst not resorting to the use of profanities or vulgar shock tactic routines.

In his latest offering WHEN I WAS YOUR AGE he compares the ‘then versus now’ generational differences of today’s children against his own, the complexities of modern day parenting compared to the strict upbringing of yesteryear and threaded throughout all of this he tackles the minefield of comedians and cancel culture, the woke brigade and why people are over political correctness.

His observations are not only deadly accurate but extremely relatable to all ages.

Just For Laughs in partnership with The Royal Theatre is thrilled to announce that due to incredible demand an amazing fourth show is being added for comedian, author and actor Josh Thomas in Toronto, ON for his new show: Let’s Tidy Up. The new show for the award-winning Australian stand-up comedian will be at the Royal Theatre on November 28 at 9:30 PM.

impossible task, like trying to defy the moon and control the tides. Josh’s brain has managed to make him the author and star of hit TV shows (Please Like Me, Everything’s Gonna Be Okay), in this show, written with award winning playwright, Lally Katz, he tries to work out how to do the small stuff.
