The Academy of Spanish Dance was established by Esmeralda Enrique in 1982. ASD is internationally recognized for the high calibre of its year round classes as well as its intensives and master classes with guest teachers from Spain. Our desire is to maintain a standard of excellence in training that is rewarding and enriching, accessible to all students, and enables them to acquire new skills and

reach higher goals. Academy of Spanish Dance provides daytime and evening classes for adults from beginners to professionals and also has a popular children’s program. Information regarding our current term schedule can be found in the photo album titled "Class Schedule, Fall 2017".

¡El flamenco está de celebración en el doodle de Google hoy, 2 de noviembre! 🎉 En esta ocasión, el protagonismo recae en la legendaria bailaora Carmen Amaya, con un impresionante diseño creado por la talentosa ilustradora Genie Espinosa. 🎨 Carmen Amaya ahora se une a la selecta lista de personalidades que han dejado su huella en la interfaz de Google.

Considerada como una de las mejores bailaoras de todos los tiempos, Carmen Amaya trasciende fronteras y se convierte en un ícono mundial. Su estilo único, marcado por movimientos agresivos y expresión apasionada, capturó la atención de todos en su época. Desde 1929, su nombre resonaba cada vez más alto, y no tardó en emprender giras por toda España y Portugal, compartiendo el escenario con los bailaores flamencos más respetados de la época.

Pero lo que hizo verdaderamente inconfundible a Carmen Amaya fue su valiente ruptura con las convenciones. Abandonó la bata de cola para abrazar pantalones de tiro alto y una torera, un atuendo que se ha convertido en un ícono de su identidad. 💃✨

Hoy, a través de este doodle de Google, rendimos homenaje a la eterna "Capitana" del flamenco. Su legado sigue vivo en cada paso de baile y en cada nota de música flamenca. ¡Bravo, Carmen Amaya! 🌟

The jota from Aragón!

‼️Hola‼️ En la entrega de hoy nuestra 𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗱é𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗮 𝗠ª 𝗝𝗲𝘀ú𝘀 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗻á𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘇 nos invita a conocer 𝗟𝗮 𝗷𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗮.

📌 De todos los tipos de jota surgidos en la geografía española, la aragonesa fue la que sobresalió por encima de las demás convirtiéndose en la principal manifestación de nuestro folclore.

📌 Se compone de cuatro elementos: la copla, el baile, el canto, y la rondalla (aunque se puede acompañar por otros grupos de instrumentos). La jota puede bailarse sin la copla o sin el canto, pero elemento indispensable es la rondalla o parte instrumental.

📌 Se cree que el primer elemento de la jota aragonesa fue el baile (bailadores), tras un extenso proceso de conjunción se fue acoplando el canto (cantadores) y la rondalla (tañedores) que en la actualidad están compuestas de guitarras, laúdes, bandurrias, requintos, guitarros, bajo, o instrumentos de percusión, entre otros

📌 Dice Cester Zapata en su libro 𝘓𝘢 𝘫𝘰𝘵𝘢 que originalmente el baile se ejecutaba con sencillez, sin pasos afiligranados de punta y talón, y su estructura se amoldaba a la perfección a las distintas Jotas existentes en otras comunidades.

📌 Como consecuencia y desarrollo de esta jota primitiva surgió la de Zaragoza, que era en el siglo XIX la que mayor similitud guardaba con aquella. Más tarde fueron surgiendo los estilos de Alcañiz, Calanda, Andorra y Albalate que junto con el de Zaragoza conformaron la antología del baile aragonés.

📌 Sin embargo, no debemos olvidarnos de otros estilos como los del Alto Aragón (Jota de Guara, Ansó, Echo, etcétera) y de las danzas de conjunto (Boleros de Caspe, Tauste, Valderrobres, Alcañiz y Sallent; Gitanillas de Andorra; Seguidillas de Leciñena; o Polinario de Fabara), consideradas en algunos casos, con mayor antigüedad que los citados estilos de jota.
