💍 ENGAGEMENT SHOOT TIPS FROM THE PROS!
We asked the lovely Roxy from
for their advice on what to wear a your engagement shoot..
Always shop in your favourite closet. Let your fiancé pick a few of his favourite outfits and you pick your favs.. this way you are both comfortable in what your wearing! It makes the feeling of the shoot much more natural & fun! Simplicity is always best.
Also bringing personal props and accessories help add a unique touch to your shoot! Add a beautiful hat or scarf for some of the photos. You can also plan for a picnic and bring all the props.
Take a few pictures on your phone in the outfits you have chosen especially if you decide to purchase something new, this way you know how your outfits photograph vs the way it sits on the hanger.
Thank you so much for your tips on what to wear!
Speaking of props... Mike and I went Horse Back Riding for our e-shoot. It was where he proposed to me and I have been riding my whole life. It was so fun!!

💍 ENGAGEMENT SHOOT TIPS FROM THE PROS
We asked Laura Clarke of for her best tips when choosing a location for your Engagement Shoot
Five tips when choosing your engagement location:
1. Try to pick a location that is meaningful to the two of you and try to incorporate things that matter to you. If one of your first dates was spent lounging in High Park or you have a cottage you visit frequently, then try to incorporate it. If your favourite time spent together is walking your dog, trying a new wine, or riding bikes, then include it. You’ll cherish the photos even more seeing yourselves at a place that is so special and doing things that spark such fond memories.
*Bonus: Having something to do helps you relax while having your photo taken.
2. Ask yourself what you envision wearing? If your dream is to wear a gown or custom suit then photos in a forest might be a bit odd. Always remember to wear what you feel most comfortable in but keep in mind how that outfit compliments the location. And don’t forget to think about footwear! Be aware of what the location will call for with the amount of walking - it’s a good idea to bring a pair of flats to switch into.
3. Don’t just pick one location! Have some fun with it and try a couple different spots. This is great if you can’t decide between two different looks and it helps give you variety in the photos. Just make sure to keep them close to each other so you’re not wasting your session time traveling.
4. Be mindful of the location and the time of day you can shoot at. A beach looks very different at sunset than it does at noon. If you want the most ideal light, aim to take photos a few hours before sunset for that dreamy golden look.
5. Think about how busy the location can get and plan around that. The last thing you want is a swarm of crowds around you when having your photo taken. Some spots can be full of crowds on a weekend so aim for a weekday if possible.
*Bonus: This is why at-home sessions are so ideal so you’re extra comfortable.
Thank you so much ! These tips are AMAZING and make perfect sense! You are the best!!

💍 ENGAGEMENT SHOOT TIPS FROM THE PROS!
We asked the incredibly talented : Why should couples invest in an engagement shoot?
Engagement shoots are great for so many reasons!
One of the most important things about engagement shoots is actually the practice of being in front of the camera! As simple as it may sound, you would be surprised how different it feels to be professionally photographed if you have not experienced it before. This will help keep your wedding day stress-free! Besides, it's great to have a professional set of photos for your memories. Another reason we recommend engagement shoots is to actually get to know you better. Engagement shoots are a great opportunity to get to know your photographer, crack some jokes and get comfortable - so on the wedding day it feels really natural and you can just enjoy the moment.
Thank you to the Purple Tree team for taking part in our PRO TIP SUNDAY!
I know personally Mike and I found it very helpful. To my surprise when we got our photos back and Mike said that he didn't like the way he looked In some angles. Our wedding photos were so good! And I attribute that to our "practice round".
Beautiful photos Shady & Julia! Loved every single one of your photos 💖

HAIR TIPS FROM THE PROS!
We asked 3 of Toronto’s Top Bridal Hair Stylists their best tips to help you prepare for your wedding day.
Next we hear from the beautiful Justyna of
It’s best to wash and condition your hair the night before the wedding.Day old hair is the best to work with. If your hair tends to get oily, stringy or greasy please wash the day of.

Avoid using shampoos and conditioners with silicone as it will weigh your hair down. Same goes for styling creams and serums. Textured is best for styling!

Make sure your hair is dry prior to styling unless the blowout is part of your wedding hairstyling service.

Please don’t flat iron your hair the day of your appt or the night before.

It is ideal to let us know if anyone has extra long or thick hair… this helps in our scheduling the correct time frame.

Asking everyone who is getting their hair done to bring inspiration pictures of hairstyle the hair style they want helps provide a clear vision and speed things along.

HAIR TIPS FOR THE PROS!
We asked 3 of Toronto’s Top Bridal Hair Stylists their best tips to help you prepare for your wedding day.
Next we hear from the talented Shannon Petrolito of for her hair prep tips!
My 1st piece of advice when brides are trying to decide what style to choose for their wedding day is you want to look and feel like yourself. Feeling comfortable with your hairstyle is so important. Do you wear your hair down all the time or do you wear your hair up mostly? Try and find a look that reflects your own personal style.  Only a more glamorous version of course!

My 2nd piece of advice is don't be afraid of hair extensions!  Not only do they enable the hairstylist to create a more dramatic look, they help to ensure the longevity of the hairstyle which is so helpful during those humid months of the year. A quality set of hair extensions is a game changer when it comes to creating a show stopping hairstyle to balance out the other elements such as bridal gown and accessories. Having a set of hair extensions gives us endless possibilities where our own natural hair often has limitations.

My 3rd piece of advice is when trying to decide how to style your hair for your wedding day take into consideration the other elements you have chosen such as  your dress, florals and decor.  If the tone of the things you have chosen are very modern for example a sleek, chic updo might really compliment those other elements.  If the details you have picked are more on the natural, whimsical side perhaps voluminous and textured downstyle or half upstyle might suit your all over vibe.  This is where during the initial consultation, exploring some of the different possibilities with your hairstylist can be so fun!

Which brings me to my last piece of advice.  ALWAYS have a bridal trial!  Time for you and the artist to discuss things like time of year(Humidity!) and your hair type and texture.  This very important step that allows you and your hairstylist or makeup artist to be on the same page which makes for much more relaxing time getting ready for your wedding day.

HAIR TIPS FROM THE PROS!
We asked 3 of Toronto’s Top Bridal Hair Stylists their best tips to help you prepare for your wedding day.
First we hear from the incredible Katie of
Tip 1: Wait until you have chosen your gown before booking your hair trial. Your hairstylist is going to want to see your gown to determine:
-- Your true personal style. Are you a fan of classic looks? Are you more edgy fashion forward?
-- The “theme” of your wedding. Vintage vibes? Classic romantic?
These factors are going to help your stylist guide you to making the right style choice to best compliment your look

Tip 2: Do not purchase a headpiece until after your hair trial. I have done many a trial where brides have made expensive purchases on headpieces, only to discover that the style that would best suit their look, did not harmonize well with their headpiece. Once you’ve decided on your hairstyle, then ask your hairstylist to guide you in which headpiece will best suit

Tip 3: Unless your go-to everyday style is super long locks, do not grow your hair too long. Typically the idea for most brides is to grow out their hair in the lead up to their wedding. Majority of the time you will find that whether you end up choosing hair up or down, your hair stylist is going to ask you to cut a decent amount of length prior to your wedding. Why do we do this?
--Hair that is too long will not hold curls. You want to aim for no longer than just below the bra line
-For updos, hairstylists typically create the most whimsical and beautiful looks using medium length hair that incorporate fillers / hair donuts for shape. Super long hair actually makes it very difficult for us to create intricate looks and we usually have to use tricks to hide extra length we don’t need.

Bonus tip: wait to buy your hair extensions until closer to the date. You will probably colour your hair just prior to your wedding and if you have already purchased extensions they may not match your new colour. You will not be able to return them. Book a quick consult with your hairstylist after your colour to determine the right colour.
