Hi, it’s me! I’m Alex from Mother’s Garden Floral Design, or MFGD. I don’t know that I’ve ever fully introduced myself, so here we go! I’ll be at the Toronto Flower Market this weekend (May 11th - 10am-3pm), come find me and say hi!!! …and buy a lil somethin’ for your mom and any bad-ass mama you know 😉

A few facts many about me:

I’m a “stay-at-home” home to two boys. My days are filled with superheroes, getting dirty, toot jokes (so many toot jokes 🤦🏼‍♀️), refereeing, and fixing boo-boos

If you didn’t already know, my fav colour is pink

My favourite flowers are coloured anemones, dahlias, roses (esp NINA!), and honestly carnations (don’t hate, they’ve come a long way and the colour varieties are insane these days).

I had kids before any of my friends and now my kids will likely babysit their kids 🤪

This baby biz of mine ebs and flows, and that’s just the way I like it

I suck at the social media stuff. It’s daunting and I don’t love showing my face on here

I come from a marketing background, but everything was put on pause when I had my first son. Playing with flowers became a creative outlet for me that I decided to turn into a business

My favourite part about floral design is the challenge and creativity it brings

Being with my kids make me happy and being away from my kids make me happy….IYKYK 🥴🤣

I also loooove interior design….maybe one day?

I once was told “what do you have any business in flowers any way?”…and it’s been my motivator ever since. Learning and growing every day because we only get one life…

I “do flowers” (as my kids say) out of my garage. It literally looks like a florist shop - with a big flower fridge, all my rentals, and supplies. I feel so lucky to be able to “work from home”

I love thrifting. I’ve scored so many unreal treasures along the way, including a pair of Gucci sandals recently, yah baby! All my vases at the TFM have been personally thrifted and then spray painted by me 🥰

I love freelancing, florists hit me up if you need a hand!

I have a tattoo of a flower bouquet that is my husband’s (and mine - we share a birth month) and both son’s birth flower

I was so lucky to experience the bridal bouquet workshop at led by Becky ().

It was such an inspiring experience surrounded by so much talent and of course, gorgeous blooms. I recommend it to all florists - both new and experienced!
