It’s Pi day! I swear it’s just a happy coincidence, but for everyone asking for pies, our online store is open! You can now order and pay for a box of pies online. For now it’s pick up only at our kitchen (793 Pharmacy) on Friday March 18 from 12pm - 4pm. This is a soft launch to see how the system works. Get your orders in by 5pm Wednesday! Link in bio

I had to sneak in to get these shots of today’s film crew lunch. I can’t believe buffets are back albeit with lots of covid precautions. It’s so much nicer to be able to serve food hot and fresh rather than pre-packaged in cater ware. I am so looking forward to staff lunch today. (I didn’t even show the dessert!)

Continuing the theme of staff appreciation, after Jeff left last winter we thought things would slow down, but they didn’t! Lucky for us Alex was on the scene. Alex has been an amazing addition to the PGHE team. From cooking to sales and even deliveries, he does it all, which is so valuable in a small business. Alex thank you for all your hard work. From our perspective, the worst thing about the pandemic has been losing staff. Last year we hired our first full time chef, Jeff Lawrence. Peter has known Jeff since he first switched from restaurant to catering in 2008. Jeff is a pro and has taught Peter so much. He helped us grow through our busiest summer ever. When summer was over he packed up and headed south for the winter, planning to come back this summer. We were on track to rehire him until the pandemic hit and everything got canceled. Jeff, thank you for everything you did and we cannot wait to get you back. Hopefully it will be soon... We miss you.

Did you know there is a great debate about whether to put jam first or cream first on your scone? Traditionally, in Devon it’s cream first and in Cornwall it’s jam first. Personally I am cream first all the way!! The cream sticks to the scone and the jam sits nicely on top. If you spread the jam first, the cream gets messy and it’s a whole thing... whatever you decide, don’t sleep on lemon curd, also a top scone condiment. What do you prefer: jam first or cream first?

I love afternoon tea. I love sitting down to a tray of beautiful, delicate and delicious morsels with a glass of bubbly, a pot of tea and a good friend. It is the ultimate little luxury, which is a thing a lot us might need right now!
I have been asking Peter to create an Afternoon Tea menu for a while. When you go to a nice hotel everything comes straight from the kitchen and chefs can be as elaborate as their skills allow. With catering it’s challenging because the items need to travel, but at least chefs can assemble them onsite. Already assembled delivery is another story altogether. How do you create something elegant and beautiful that can travel well already assembled? Peter knows how much I love afternoon tea (see my other account:) so he really wanted to make this happen for Mother’s Day and he did it! Of course for me that means he will be working on Mother’s Day and I’ll have to wait for my tea... oops. I don’t care. I am so excited about this menu and we hope you like it too.
It comes with all the savouries, scones, clotted cream, preserves, desserts that you would expect, along with a tiered tray for you to keep, flowers for mom, and bottle of French sparkling wine and free delivery in Toronto. Orders must be received by 3pm on May 5. There are limited quantities available and we will be donating a tea for two to a frontline worker. A frontline worker can be a mom homeschooling her kids, a personal support worker doing home visits to support disabled or elderly, someone working in a long term care home, grocery store workers, food service workers. If you would like to nominate someone in the comments, we want to hear about the frontline heroes.
Unfortunately we cannot offer any food substitutions at this time.

Last supper in Australia had to be an Aussie meat pie and mash. Goes perfectly with the Friday night footy show. Even the rugby league in Australia is being threatened by corona virus. We are planning to self quarantine when we get home. This has already been hard on caterers as events are being canceled or just not planned at all. We hope our fellow caterers are able to weather this crisis and we hope our customers are all staying safe and healthy.

We have been celebrating chef Peter’s parents’ 50th anniversary in Australia and now squeezing in some research and development before heading home. These were taken last night at the Altitude Restaurant at the Shangri-la Sydney. The food was amazing and made even better by the view. They are doing some amazing things with tuna and passion fruit that we may need to try back home. Stay tuned!!
