Introducing our first Master Artist: Gayance (gayance.bandcamp.com)
Gayance, pronounced ‘guy-ence’, is a creole word for joyfulness: an apt description for the unapologetically joyful Aïsha Vertus. The DJ, producer and radio-maker’s Haitian roots are a driving force for her explorations in sound and space.
Gayance reflects on her influences and experiences navigating the music space in Montreal, to lend powerful advice on how to break into the DJ scene. The artist discusses the use of music and partying as tools of resistance, the process of finding your voice as an artist and how to plan a party that’s safe for all! .
We’re so excited to share this with you all and we hope you enjoy. Click the link to watch! https://bit.ly/3h8qZuG

Interdisciplinary artist Kristen Allicock (@theartofkdominique) began working on her pieces for “Opposites Attract” in the Fall of 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic, and consequential lockdowns provided her with the time to ‘slow down’ and ‘reevaluate’ things in her life. It also rekindled her love for art, and reminded her of the therapeutic aspect of creativity.
We caught up with Kristen on the opening day of 'Future Forward Forever: A Black Artists Exhibit', to talk through her practice and discuss the pieces featured in the exhibition.

Meet sculpture and installation artist, Jihee Min, one of 6 featured artists at CreativeTO.
Jihee Min explores art as means to engage issues of identity and displaced culture within Canada’s multiculturalism. Min’s practice employs narrative strategies and autobiographical experiences in a wide range of media, such as sculpture, installation, performance, photography and drawing. Based on her personal experiences of Korean Diaspora in both Quebecois and English-Canadian environments, Min’s interest is to find ways to transcend stereotypical issues of culture, language, memory and geography into a unique environment where artist, work, and viewers have no boundaries.
Experience Jihee Min's work at #CreativeTO17 on Nov 30. Tickets at www.creativeto.ca.
