Truro. We love you. And we love your music. That’s why we’re starting SUBVert. A series that rethinks live performance in Truro and brings a constant rush of new music to town. A project that puts musicians together. And that connects Truro with itself. Shows starting January 17 in the Marigold (like you’ve never seen it before). The lineup is announced November 22. Come experience a new creative landscape.

Happy Thanksgiving weekend. We’re thankful for our beautiful, longstanding building. The rooms that make music, theatre, art, and community possible. We’re proud to be one of the many hubs of events and culture in Truro. We’re proud to work in Nova Scotia’s live music capital. And we’re thankful for all the people that make our building live! We also recognize the challenging and dark history around Thanksgiving. That the celebration and sharing took place before the arrival of colonizers. And that reconciliation is based in remembering and working towards a better future. It is active and ongoing and takes work and effort. As we celebrate, and be thankful, it’s simple and beautiful to take a moment to remember that we live on unceded territory. And to learn more about treaties and the Indigenous people who have stewarded this land since long before our Thanksgiving dinners.
Payadora brings tango to Truro!
$35. St. Andrew’s United Church. October 17. Payadora is an award-winning ensemble that performs arrangements drawing from Argentinian/Uruguayan traditions (tangos, milongas, waltzes, and folk music such as the Zamba and chacarera), as well as original songs inspired by that tradition. Comprised of musicians who are each musical powerhouses in their own right, this “superstar group” has combined their profound love of tango with their classical, jazz, and global music backgrounds to create something entirely new. Payadora is officially endorsed by the Argentinian Consulate in Toronto for its adherence to the spirit of tango, and audiences flock to performances that convey joy, virtuosity, humour, and intense passion.
