WHITE TAIL WOODS WEDDING ITEMS FOR SALE
As you may have heard, a few months ago our wedding venue was blindsided by the news that we had to cease all operations, effective immediately.
Our venue exists in Leduc County, who refused the renewal of our permit earlier in 2023. As we were confused by the lack of grounds, having operated entirely legitimately and without fault, we appealed this decision, confident we would win.
Shortly after, Leduc County amended their bylaw to remove new wedding venues as a land use. This included an attempt from Leduc County to delay our permit appeal hearing until they could pass this new bylaw. Once unsuccessful in this delay attempt, they moved up the passing of the bylaw change by two weeks. This meant that the provincial appeal board would have no mechanism to overrule the refusal and issue our permit as they now had to rule under the new bylaw.
Despite us (and other Leduc County wedding venues) being a pre-existing approved business with years of business booked, Leduc County counted us as “new” under this permit refusal and bylaw amendment. Despite grace periods being precedented in land use bylaw changes, Leduc County made the bylaw apply instantly, even with the awareness of upcoming booked weddings.
After this news, we worked day and night and successfully helped our couples find new venues that were as similar to ours as possible, which was a difficult and stressful undertaking with weddings mere months away.
We are now selling all of our wedding items, and are bidding a bittersweet farewell to an industry we fell in love with.
