When we started telling close friends and family that we were planning to have a home birth, we were met with a lot of criticism. It was so disheartening to know that we had very few supporters. Even more upsetting were their negative comments that made me start to question if we were making a bad decision. The world of home birth is widely misunderstood. People who know barely anything about it feel the need to make fear-instilling comments that aren't relevant at all. My entire pregnancy I wanted to write this post. It has been a long time coming. Please read with an open mind. I am not saying that hospital births aren't necessary (because they are in so many cases), what I am saying is be supportive of your friend.
