27th and Olive » Cinnamon-Spiced Pear Roll with Warm Pear Infused Caramel

Sharing a little (big) cinnamon bun love on the blog today with a Cinnamon Sliced Pear Roll with Pear Infused Caramel!! Head over to check it out! (Sponsored by Revol USA)

http://www.27thandolive.com/cinnamon-spiced-pear-roll/

It is almost instinct now. As soon as the first few specks of white start falling from the clouds, I find myself in the kitchen, kneading some cinnamon bun dough. For me, snow and cinnamon go hand-in-hand. The only thing that was lacking were the christmas carols in the background. It is amazing how...

27th and Olive » Vlog: Apple Picking

A little video and photos from our fall apple picking adventures! This week is dedicated to using up your bags of apples from the orchard! http://www.27thandolive.com/vlog-apple-picking/

A few weeks into September we packed the family into the car and headed to Wynn Farms to fill our basket full of apples. Last year was the first time both Olive and I had ever gone apple picking at an orchard. I had picked apples for many many years from the old apple tree that my grandparents plant…

27th and Olive » Green Witch Finger Cookies

Last minute Halloween Treats? Yes Please! Last minute Halloween treats? Yes please!! http://www.27thandolive.com/green-witch-finger-cookies/

No, not the delicate sponge cookies used to make fancy desserts like charlottes and tiramisu. These beauties look like full-fledge severed and bloody witch fingers. Gross, right? If you’ve never seen cookies like this before and are feeling completely repulsed right now, I’d say that’s about right…

27th and Olive » Why We Chose a Home Birth (And Why Our Choice Shouldn’t Matter To You)

When we started telling close friends and family that we were planning to have a home birth, we were met with a lot of criticism. It was so disheartening to know that we had very few supporters. Even more upsetting were their negative comments that made me start to question if we were making a bad decision. The world of home birth is widely misunderstood. People who know barely anything about it feel the need to make fear-instilling comments that aren't relevant at all. My entire pregnancy I wanted to write this post. It has been a long time coming. Please read with an open mind. I am not saying that hospital births aren't necessary (because they are in so many cases), what I am saying is be supportive of your friend. Don't discredit her decision! ---Without further ado: Why We Chose a Home Birth (And Why Our Choice Shouldn't Matter to You).

http://www.27thandolive.com/why-we-chose-a-home-birth-and-why-our-choice-shouldnt-matter-to-you/

Bringing a tiny miracle into this world is something I cannot even begin to describe. The emotions, the love, the worries, the overwhelming pain that we can so easily forget… The birth of my children are the two events in my life that I am most proud of, and am not afraid to share. Their birth stori…

20/10/2015

This week I am sharing a little about my experience with home birth. Throughout my pregnancy I realized that many people don't fully understand the safety and benefits of home birth... Today I am sharing the benefits of a water birth. In most hospitals you are allowed to labour in the tub, however you aren't allowed to have a water birth. At home, you are allowed to do it all! http://www.27thandolive.com/6-benefits-of-water-birth/

19/10/2015

I am dedicating this week on my blog to home birth. It is something that I am quite passionate about, and I wish more people knew the true facts! Olive was born in the hospital. Henry was born at home. I have experienced both worlds, and I am for certain that if I have another low risk pregnancy, I will deliver at home again! On the blog this morning is Henry's birth story. I would love if you would spend the week with me to learn a little more about this growing world! http://bit.ly/1XeNFEK

27th and Olive » Twenty Six Months With Olive

Better late than never! My Dear Olive letter is on the blog! Can you guess what her most favourite silly face is these days? http://bit.ly/1G2SUCH

Every month I write you these letters, and someday when we look back and read them together I think they’ll serve just as much as a record of my life as of yours. Sometimes I look at you and say something that I believe you have never heard before, but yet you fully understand what I want you to do.…

Two years ago on a warm Saturday morning we welcomed you into our hearts. We were new parents, full of excitement, full of love, but also full of nerves. To be honest, we had no idea what we were doing. As I looked into your beautiful dark blue eyes and brushed my hands through your long hair, I pro…

27th and Olive » A Final Goodbye

Saying goodbye for the last time is hard. I wish we never have to do it. We had to make one of the toughest decisions of my life this weekend. We had 16 wonderful years with this handsome fella. Sharing some words and photos about my best friend on the blog today. http://bit.ly/1xTvJpo

Saying a final goodbye is hard. I’m never going to be good at it. I’m never going to truly understand it. I’m not sure how I will ever be able to teach Olive, when I do not understand myself.
