As a parent, community member, and advocate for inclusion, diversity, curiosity, and affordability, I’m always seeking events that bring people together. Growing up in Abbotsford, I’ve always loved our community’s cherished traditions in the heart of Downtown, Berry Fest and the Winter Jubilee.

For many years, I enjoyed these events without knowing who worked behind the scenes to make them so special. 1️⃣ Plan Ahead (Seriously!)

Venues, caterers, and even grocery stores get busy fast. Lock in your date, send invites early, and make a checklist so you’re not scrambling mid-December.

2️⃣ Keep the Menu Simple

You don’t need to cook everything from scratch! Choose a few crowd-pleasers, prep what you can ahead of time, and don’t be afraid to mix homemade with store-bought.

3️⃣ Set the Vibe with Lighting & Music

Candles, string lights, and a good playlist go a long way in creating a warm, festive atmosphere without breaking the bank.

4️⃣ Have a Weather Backup Plan

Hosting outside? Make sure you’ve got a covered area, space heaters, or cozy blankets. Even indoor parties can use a little “just in case” thinking.

5️⃣ Enjoy the Moment (Really!)

It’s easy to get caught up in being the perfect host, but your guests are there to spend time with you. Pour a drink, take a breath, and celebrate with the people you care about. The holidays can be chaotic but they’re also magical. With a little prep (and a lot of cheer), you can host a party that feels just right.
