I have 2 big events coming up and I have a couple of key volunteer spots left to fill if anyone might be interested.

Abbotsford's Canada Day Parade (July 1)

Stage Coordinator:
Duties-Communicate between myself and the Emcee if there are any parade changes. Help decorate the stage and other light duties. July 1, 8am-1:30pm

Barricade Marshall:
Duties-We have 3 spots we just need someone to stand by the barricade to make sure they don't get moved. 10am-1:30pm

Downtown Abbotsford's Berry Fest (July 6

Day of set up:
Duties-Help with site set up. Putting up tents, tables, chairs, activation zones, signage. July 6, 8am-12pm

Office Support:
Duties-help in the office with any emails, printing, log lost & found, and other light admin duties. 2 shifts available 8am-2pm & 1:30pm - 8:30pm.

But when we allow ourselves to dream, we tap into a sense of excitement and wonder about all the amazing things that could happen. And, as the quote suggests, dreaming is actually a form of planning. When we envision our goals and aspirations, we're better able to make a plan to achieve them.

Today is about promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities at every level of society.

When planning events, accessibility is a very important step in your planning process. Here are some key things to keep in mind when planning your event to make it more accessible for persons with disabilities.

1. Parking- Start right at the beginning, what kind of parking spots are available for persons with disabilities? How far from the main entrances are they? How many spots are there?
2. Access to the venue- What options are there for people to access your event? 3. Ticketing- Does the ticket price include a care giver for some people that require extra assistance?
4. Washrooms- What types of facilities are available and where are they located? Are they easy to access?
5. Seating areas-Make sure there tables offered for those that may need a bit more room to move around and to be comfortable.

These are just a few of some very important things to keep in mind when you plan you next event.

These are just a few of the many, many skills you need as an event professional. No matter what the event, you will use each one of these to skills to execute a successful event.

Planning - You must be able to structure a sound plan for your event. Every detail must be logically thought out and implemented.

Collaboration - Some of the best ideas come from collaboration. Whether you are working with a team, networking or attending an event. Successful events have many collaboration sessions through out the planning process.

Resource - Knowing how to use your resources and always growing your network is one of the most important assets you can obtain. In this industry networking and word of mouth is #1.

Crisis Management - Although we all try and produce events in the safest way possible, accidents happen. The skill to stay calm and manage high-stress situations is one not to be overlooked for the safety of you, your team and your event.

Execute - The skill to see an event from concept to completion and everything in between is a big asset. Being able to multitask the many details right through to the end is a very unique skill set.
