I keep thinking how much faster and almost magical change could happen if government of Canada simply signed a paper that all new houses have to be built out of h**p blocks. OK, I don’t actually know if it would work with highrises (it might) but it would be a double impact on improving our carbon dioxide problem. H**p blocks ABSORB carbon dioxide and get stronger from it, so not only we would be saving countless trees but we’d make our homes do the thing that forests do!

Add to that better insulation (therefore less energy wasted), practically eliminating risk of fire (the staff doesn’t burn).

Yes, there’d be some initial moaning and groaning from the builders because most of them would have to learn how to do that, but really, it’s worth it in the long run.

Where does one even go to make such a request? We are told that the government’s job is to work for the people, so…. where do the people make requests and see them come to life???

Today was the first time in years that I showed up to my class just on time instead of 5-10 minutes early. I observed myself saying "I'm being a human today", I was defending myself even though nobody had a problem....

Thank goodness I start every class with breathing exercises, I have a chance to use breath for my own nourishment. I watch my nervous system calming down, the rest of the class is joy.

The conditioning to follow the rules is strong. Years and years of conditioning. (This particular rule "to be on time" is actually a good rule, in my opinion, but it's important to leave room for humanness).

I am getting more aware of rules and my responses to them. Questioning too.

Baby elephants are tied to a steak with a rope. Baby elephant tries to escape, and tries and tries until it gives up and stops trying. So, when it grows up, it could easily escape, but it believes that it can't, so it doesn't even try. The same happens to humans, except instead of ropes we use all sorts of rules to keep humans "in check". So, when we grow up we have a whole bunch of beliefs that are holding us on a short leash.

For example, when someone has to make a decision in their life and they say "I don't know what to do!". They might not know many very specific things like how to write software or sail a boat. But, when it comes to decisions and choices for their own life, THEY DO KNOW. Even if they say that they don't know, they know. I know it, you know it. In our heart of hearts we know what the right choice for us would be. But there's fear in the way of that knowledge. So, next time you don't know what to do, try asking yourself these questions:

If I wasn't afraid, what would I do?

Can I imagine that I DO know what the next right thing for me to do? What would my decision be?

Those simple questions can uncover some very interesting things if you just listen to the answers. When I ask myself the question "if I wasn't afraid, what would I do?" I always get an answer, often a surprising one. Sometimes I follow my answer and sometimes I don't but I can't say that I don't know anymore.... Sometimes I still don't follow my own "right for me" path because I am afraid, but the decision is conscious and I consider it to be an improvement.

I am not sure about elephants, but when it comes to humans, we need to feel safe and loved. Once we can reliably connect to that state, that's when we can access our creative power, the same force that creates galaxies. Yes, I do believe that we are all part of that creative force and some of us simply forgot that. Let this letter be a reminder that you are a powerful being and you know what is best for you.

So, if you weren't afraid, what would you do?

OK, of course you don’t have to lose the fear completely because fear is there to keep you safe. It is there to tell you to step away from the edge of a cliff, it’s there to help you run from a bear (good luck with that! It is said that in a bear scenario it's best to pretend you are dead).

However, in our daily life, when you are NOT chased by a bear, it is a good idea to lose the fear because when you make decisions out of fear you are not going to live your best life. For example, you might take a job that you know you won’t like because you are scared of not being able to pay the bills. But if you lost your fear just for a few moments, you might be able to see that there’s a better fitting job right around the corner!

When my dog got attacked today by another dog three things got demonstrated to me:
1. The dog that attacked did it out of fear. If that dog took a moment to meet my love bug (which is my dog), she would be ok. The dog attacked because old conditioning kicked in, she wasn’t socialized with other dogs when she was a puppy. When her owner snapped her out of it, both dogs were able to co-exist just fine.
2. Hearing my dog whimpering I automatically went into flight or fight response. I tried to drag my dog away, but it made things worse, the other dog just dug her teeth deeper (thankfully it was a small thing with little teeth so no blood was drawn).
3. If I stayed calm, I would have dropped the leash down and allowed my dog to set a boundary.

All of that showed me that I need to make feeling of safety my default state.

How do I do that?

By practising.

My goal is to feel safe unless there’s true danger, something like fire in my building, a lion chasing me, i.e. when my life is threatened. All the other times I want to have full access to my thinking brain so I can make decisions that are best for me, that are more freeing rather than from fear. Decisions made out of fear usually take me to the opposite direction, away from freedom.

Considering freedom is one of the most important things to me, I want to make decisions in that direction and from that place.

I want to share a short meditation designed to connect you to your sense of safety. Practice it as much as you can so it becomes automatic in your nervous system. Essentially we want to replace anxiety with safety. I wish that for me and I wish that for the whole world.

When we feel safe we can have more compassion, more empathy and understanding for ourselves and others.

When we feel safe we can practice deep listening instead of listening to respond.

When we feel safe we can make room for our feelings and feelings of others.

When we feel sage we can show up as our own unique selves.

It’s time to snap out of fear. And land into freedom.

This is my wish for all of us.

When it comes to confidence, I believe this is the WORST advise someone could give you.

Confidence is defined as trust in your own abilities. So, if you keep faking it, how can you build trust? In fact faking it will corrode the trust, which is THE OPPOSITE of what you want to create!
