Throwing it back to this summer wedding at Deer creek Golf Club
Mistakes I would avoid if I had to start my business over again:1. Doing things out of my comfort area to please a client-know your boundaries and stay within them! For me it was so hard saying no to people in the beginning. I would take on shoots or clients I wasn’t prepared for, or drive long distances for little pay. It is ok to say no!2. Ignore client red flags and hoping for the best-this one I cannot stress enough. Never put yourself in a situation that is unsafe, or is too much trouble. If something doesn’t feel right always go with your gut, either have someone accompany you to a shoot, or adjust your contract to avoid potentially bad situations. 3. Going to a wedding or shoot without backup equipment-you can have the best equipment in the world and it can still fail, break or get lost!! Always have backup and spares. 4. Comparing myself to other photographers to gauge my worth- ever heard of imposter syndrome? I struggled with this so much in the beginning (and honestly still do lol) so I would undervalue my work so much to compare it to others. You deserve to make a living wage!! Charge your worth!5. Feel guilty for being human-we are all human and things come up from time to time. You can do your best to avoid issues but sometime something will happen out of your control. The best thing you can do is apologize, try to rectify the situation and move on. Harboring guilt for something that isn’t your fault isn’t worth the time. #beginnerphotographytips #photographybeginner #beginnerphotography #photographytipsandtricks #photographytips #photographymentor #destinationphotographer #travelphotographer
