The Ceremony!! Part 3 of 6 of this lovely wedding. What lenses do I use?

I absolutely LOVE photographing the wedding ceremony. It’s completely candid, and although there are many factors I can’t change that are not ideal, lighting in particular, I can’t help but love the rawness of it. I usually cry a few happy tears at every ceremony.

I always wear two cameras for the ceremony and most of a wedding day. This allows me to utilize two different lenses without having to swap them out and miss important moments. I always use my 70-200mm at ceremonies so I can stay back but still get tight intimate shots. I don’t even know how I could live without it. The other lens I use is a 35mm prime for those wide angle shots.

The lighting was great at this ceremony 👍 Thanks again to K&M for being so wonderful.

I have a few families in Grand Forks that have supported me SO much by continually hiring me for their family photos. This gorgeous family is one of them. I think they have booked more shoots with me than anyone and I’m so grateful for them.

Thanks so much for trusting me with your family memories. I’m excited for the next maternity shoot in August!

I know times are tough right now, and retail, grocery stores and the housing market are taking advantage of us all, squeezing every penny out of us to stuff their already exploding pockets. I know not everyone can afford to get one shoot let alone multiple, but finding a way to have fun with your family and document as much as you can is important. Whether that be entering family photo shoot giveaways, skipping on a month of convenience buying to save for a shoot, reassessing your priorities or creating DIY photoshoots, find a way to save those memories!

GETTING READY 💄👰🏻‍♀️💍💐

The first part of a wedding day. This is the time where I slip in the front door, say hi to everyone in sight and track down the bride. Sometimes I’ve already taken a bunch of photos before the bride even knows I’m there.

I shoot all the details, the putting on of the dress, everyone’s reactions to the beautiful bride and any other moments that scream to be documented.

It was a beautiful wedding with beautiful people, inside and out. I’m so grateful for K&M 💜🥰💜

“Mom, she’s so silly all the time!” 🤪 Kid’s comment after leaving this shoot with me.

I AM so silly all the time! I’m a silly person and I’m not afraid at all to be silly for your kids, or anyone. I want family photo shoots to be fun! What better way to document kids than when they are playing and having fun.

“I really like playing with that girl Megan; she’s so fun!” Another kid’s comment from another shoot and some time visiting with the cutie while his parents were at a wedding.

Okay, I’ll stop bragging 😜😘

🐠It was such a calm morning. There was such presence of birds, fish and insects all around. The cool breeze on a mild overcast day is my favourite and although it drizzled a little here and there, we never got rained out.🦆

🪻I loved getting families to stop and smell and look at the flowers together. It’s a great way to capture genuine moments.🪻

High school sweethearts 💛💛 I’ve know these two for most of my life.

Derek was one of my favourites of my brother’s friends. He never once bothered or bullied me, and was always respectful. Jade was the girl every other girl wanted to be, beautiful, smart, cool and funny. I’ve always admired these two and now their family is growing up so fast!

Song to throw back to high school years when punk was BIG in my school and these guys loved underground punk music.

I’m working on being more intentional and mindful in most every area of my life 🪻💛🪻

This goes for my content, as well. Resisting the urge to just throw together posts to get them out there, I’m spending only a little extra time to carefully curate the images I share on social media and present them in a more aesthetically pleasing way. Hoping it’s sustainable.

I’ve been working being more mindful while taking photos. Calming the butterflies within me to work fast, and really slow down to evaluate the background, composition and lighting. Take my time.

QUALITY over QUANTITY.

I’m working on being a better listener because it turns out most of us are not very good at truly listening, especially those who think they are. Most people feel there are very few people in their lives that really listen to them. Sound familiar? We gain so much knowledge when we listen more and talk less. IT’S HARD, but I’m finally consciously trying to do better.

That’s a wrap for my 2024 engagement shoots for my wedding couples!

Running through fields, picking up and spinning your sweetheart, and laughing in the tall grass. I’ll speak for us all when I say WE HAD FUN!

I’m so delighted with all of my 2024 wedding couples and I can’t wait to kick off my wedding photography season next weekend!

Thanks to these two love birds for frolicking in the grass with me. Coady had so much fun that he kicked off the entire sole of his shoe 😆 I regret not getting a picture of it, lol! Tammy, did the shoe goo work!?

My first flying dress shoot and it was delightful! What do you think?

When Joanne reached out to me for a flying dress photo shoot, I was elated. Yes please!

I wanted the high contrast look direct hard light provides, so we did this shoot at 10am on a blue sky day at Waterfront Park in Kelowna. The direct light gives the dress a beautiful shine and Joanne looks so gorgeous in the sunlight.

She’s not a professional model but she could have fooled me! The poses and expressions she constantly gave me were perfect 👌 I barely had to direct her.

I had the best assistant to help with holding and throwing the dress. I’m so grateful for her and her hard work 💛 My colleague from my school photography job, we work so well together.

This is a type of shoot I’d be happy and excited to do again 😊👍

I’ve had a string of bad luck this month with scheduled shoots 🤦🏻‍♀️

My first engagement session of 2024 and this couple is 🔥and 😂 I had so much fun with them.

Then the bad luck started lol.

I had an engagement golden hour shoot that got canceled due to a big accident and road closure near Peachland. Reschedule.

I had a family golden hour shoot that was purchased as a gift to a friend with a new baby. I got an email in the morning the day of from her partner explaining she spent the night in the ER and has to cancel. She’s ok now. Reschedule.

I had my first ever bo***ir shoot planned for this past weekend but she got really sick and had to cancel. Reschedule.

🤞that June will be better for scheduled shoots.

I’ve always been a huge animal lover 🐈🐕🐇🐁🦔🐖🐄🐍🐥🐠🐓🐑🦜🪿🦦

I used to spend my childhood days walking through the forest looking for injured animals to rescue.

When asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, I answered “a cat!”, and it’s still my answer 😜

I worked at the SPCA for a year before they shut down the one in my town. I actually got to rescue and find animals homes 🤗

When people say they don’t like a type of animal, I wonder what happened to their heart to turn it so cold 😆

I have 3 cats that interrupt my sleep consistently, but I love them to bits. They are family.

Aren’t these 3 cuties adorable together? 🥰
